    Hi Karen!

I do not think Maxi has insulin resistance. You saw some blues and you can see a sort of trend down with each cycle, even if they're numbers higher than you'd like.

What's probably happening is what typically happens for new diabetics. You don't know how long Maxi has been diabetic and his body is just used to higher numbers. So any dip lower than his "normal" (which is high), and his body will react by dumping more sugars into the blood stream. We call this the panicky liver. With time, Maxi will learn that lower numbers = good. You're doing great with testing and increasing safely.

There may also be some glucose toxicity in effect and the only real way to help combat that is with insulin and increases.

I think you're doing well, Maxi is responding. Just keep going.

    Thank you, Crista.

So, his numbers don't look out of the ordinary for diabetic cats? It just seems that his numbers should start going down with higher and higher doses of insulin, but I guess he has panicky liver, as you said. Right?
You said 'with time...' How much time do we typically have to wait for the liver to stop panicking and the insulin to start lowering his glucose?

    Thanks a lot!

    Thank you, Olive.

How can you tell that Maxi is responding? Aside from a very few lower numbers, all his numbers are high and not going down as the insulin increases.

I have to go out of town now, and I'll be back tomorrow evening/night.
My roommate will test and shoot Maxi, so that will be going on even if his spreadsheet isn't updated. My roommate will be in touch with me.

Because during the cycle they are steadily going down. Last night you started at 342 at +8 it was 283. Then looks like the insulin starting to wear off so glucose is rising naturally. He is not use to yellows yet.
