We are currently using freestyle Libre 3 for our cat Oliver. We also use an adhesive over patch to keep it on him as long as we can. The adhesive is ripping his very thin skin even despite using skin barriers and adhesive removal wipes. We rotate sites to let previous rash and skin tears heal. We need more closely watched monitoring until we get his insulin and blood sugars more stable. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to protect his skin while using the device? Thanks

I probably understand your frustration, when I brought my Corky home the hospital , the Vet I asked me to purchase the FreeStyle Libre 2, the day I brought him home it came off, bought a new one, it also fell off after 4 days and it was well placed on top of that it is supposed to last 14 days, NOT, they would stoop working after 4-6-8 days, I had the monitor's alarm for low glucose was at 90, in the middle of the night it would go off reading 70-60 I was new to all this so I was at the point of a breakdown, until this Forum suggested the ReliOn classic with strips, a total game changer, I check his BG every 2 hours on the tip of the ear and voila, also before I got that monitor he still had a sensor, so I would check with both monitor and the FreeStyle monitor was totally off. My suggestion, get the ReliOn, for a lot of us members, we are sold on it Best to you on this matter:bighug::cat::cat:

Whee are yoy placing the Libre? I place mine right behind the shoulder blade and cover with a onesie from thrift store (with bottom cut off). I use Skin Tac adhesive barrier under the sensor. I am getting 14 days on both of my cats. I find Brava spray works better that the Tac Away removal wipes. Does the problem occur when the Libre is removed?

He’s actually getting the skin irritation under the edge of the sensor and the edge of the cover tape we use to keep it on. We also will put a shirt on him to keep him from locking it off but we also keep him short free for part of the day when we are home so he can clean the rest of himself. We have a large area behind his shoulders and behind his neck where we rotate sites so not to go over the same irritated skin

like I explained I stopped using them they were a big problem, and yes that's were I had them placed, they do not read correctly, you are lucky they work for the 14 days, but always keep an extra one if you plan to use them, even though they are guaranteed by the Company, if you need replacement weather they stop working or fall off, they will send you a new one at no charge, but when and if you call the customer service line, do not tell them is for your cat, they will not replace it, I do not know how much you pay for the sensor, but here in Miami Florida I was paying $44.98 for each at Walmart pharmacy

I’ve been using the cavilon barrier wipes/skin prep and some Amazon brand of adhesive remover spray too. We have a large shaved area behind his shoulders and in between (behind his neck as we have to rotate sites to allow his skin to heal. I believe the rash is from: surgical glue from vet used under sensor and the adhesive on the cover patch to keep it in place.

Is the ReliOn still working great for you? I have my lil 12 year old buddy, and he is getting 1 dose of insulin twice a day! He had the same thing happen, got it off first night, got new one,, same thing for the Libre 3! I just want his levels to be more sustained (obviously) so I’m just reaching out to ask if the Reli On is working good for you?? About to order mine on Amazon for Lil Sean ❤️ Thanks In Advance

I wouldn’t order it any more the best thing you can do is purchase a ReliOn Classic human monitor and the strips non expensive at Walmart, in this Forum they’ll teach you how to use it and where to test you will get the right glucose number, I don’t know about you, but Corky had the last Libre sensor on when I got the ReliOn I was testing with the monitor and the f sensor, it was crazy the difference in BG numbers totally off especially in low numbers those sensors suck excuse the expression you will be more in control with the ReliOn besides the fact that the monitor is less the $20. And the strips are $9.00 for 50 strips I alway have 100 in case I need to test frequently and will actually get an accurate reading, we almost all in this Forum use it and test on the top of the ear there is a sticky post which will take you step by step, you’ll become a pro in no time, and it doesn’t hurt our kitties I hope this answers your question

Trust me, no matter where you place it, how long it's been on or how many days it's been on, there were times that the sensor would stop working at 2 days to 8 days when it should work for 14 days, I cannot count how many sensors I had to throw , and the frustrations I had to go thru at the beginning. For me, personally nothing like the ReliOn monitor and strips

I am just a newbie here, but I will say that after reading through a lot of posts, many if not most users here are using a relion, and the majority are using human meters as well. That's why I chose a human meter- I want to have the same kind of equipment as the folks I'm taking my advice from!
