Sorry about so many questions regarding an upcoming pending trip. I transferred this post from yesterday's condo over to today so that maybe it wouldn't get missed. Yesterday's condo and litany of questions: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=46224

My pet sitter said the best she could do would be 7:30am and 5:30pm (10 hours). So, I'm considering skipping the am shot, but I may have to do it two days in a row. I don't think I can fly back in time for the next am shot. I've been writing down and figuring it out many different ways.

    Depending on when we leave:
    --`Give am shot myself (4:30am)
-- Pet sitter comes at 5:30pm, shoots blind
    -- Skip am shot
-- Pet sitter again comes at 5:30PM, shoots blind
    -- Skip am shot
-- Hopefully, I can fly home in time for pm shot.

Another senario is a friend has offered to come at 7:30pm and shoot (again, shooting blind).
I could have my pet sitter come in the am at 7:30 and then my friend at 7:30pm at night. My issue here is how high maintenance both my cats are with one eating raw, the other eating canned, one getting a shot, the other getting a pill. It's a lot to ask of a friend who doesn't even have pets.

How critical is it that I move the shot in small time increments to get from 4:30 to 7:30? I'm not sure when we are leaving, and a 7:30 shot time is VERY inconvenient for my current schedule, so I may just have to jump from 4:30 to 7:30...how bad would that be?

Also, what do you think I should reduce his shot to? 8.0u? That's what popped into my head. He's due for an increase to 11u soon. Do you think I should just hold him at 10.75u for a while longer or increase now and then drop the dose. My problem is this family member could hold on for weeks or go tomorrow. I have no planning time.

I'm sorry for so many questions, I'm just not sure what to do. I'm so set with my perfect schedule that I hate changing it and Guinness is doing so much better with the blues and yellows, I hate to lose that momentum.

Lastly, Libby. No Ketones, ever. Knock on wood.

Since you don't have immediate plans to travel, is there any chance of finding a different pet sitter who could do the 12/12 schedule? perhaps they could do 630a/630p so it's not as disruptive to your perfect schedule. I would ask the vet if any of the vet techs do pet sitting.

I think that would solve a lot of these problems and answer many of these questions if you could find a pet sitter that could be more adaptable to your schedule and expectations.

ETA: sorry if i'm stating something that's already been suggested. I've been MIA from LL for a long time.

Geez Linda, I'm so sorry you have to deal with this!!! I know you've been racking your brain trying to think of the best alternative. I do tend to like the idea of your friend coming in. It would only be for two or three days that she would have to do this and she probably wouldn't mind. You could always give her a nice gift card to a restaurant afterward to thank her!! I would do it for a friend...I bet you would, too. Because you need your schedule to remain at 4:30/4:30, just skip the first shot you won't be there for (the evening shot). It will just be like a fur shot. Have your friend just do the feeding and anything else that needs to be done that night. The pet sitter then comes in at 7:30 a.m., does her thing, and your friend comes in at 7:30 pm and feed, test, shoot. When you get back, to get back to the 4:30 time, either decease each day by 30 minutes (which will take six days to get back to 4:30), or do another skipped shot.

    Hope this helps!!

No suggestions since I haven't travelled since Gracie was dx. I just wanted to tell you I'm glad to see you back and send you hugs.

Thank you so much all for your ideas. I'm thinking the pet sitter/friend combo might be the best option at this point with a reduced shot. But I'm not sure what I should reduce the shot to.

My husband's uncle was taken off life support a couple of days ago and was expected not to last the night, but he did, so now it's just a waiting game. I'm not sure I can interview a new pet sitter before we get the word, but I plan to call my vet's office Monday to inquire about vet techs house/pet sitting. They are about 40 minutes away though, so they might not want to make the drive.

Thanks again for your help. Thank you Patti for always checking in on us!
