I haven't actually spoken to vet yet, just had a voicemail

Here are her numbers, basically bad.

    BUN 150 (normal 10-30)
    Creatnine 7.7 (normal 0.3 to 2.1)
    phos 11 (normal 3.4-5.8)
calcium 9.6 (actually in normal range but when multiplied with phos, want under 70), means there is calcification

Basically she has kidney disease with renal failure. Most likely chronic + acute (UTI) or kidney tumor

I'm waiting to talk to vet about what to do next? Fluids? I don't think I want to go for x-rays or ultrasound to look for tumors, the treatment for that is pretty toxic, so I don't think I'd go that way anyways....

Jennifer, Tanya's UK CRF site is where you want to go. Also, that creat can be brought down some by leaving her at the vet for at least 2 days on IV fluids. Sub-Q's are not going to do it right now. She should be put on phosphate binders also......there are powders, tasteless, that you mix in food. No more than 3 days max on IV fluids though or her hematocrit will be affected. Do you have a reading on her hematocrit to see if she has any anemia starting? B.K. was almost that high so we did IV fluids, got her down, and maintaining at about 3.5 with sub-Q's, binders, and her heart meds. She can only get 75 mls a day so I use an infusion kit for her fluids. Also, keep an eye on her potassium level.

Let us know what the vet says after you talk with him.

Re: Korbel's test results-Its time to say goodbye

I just got off of the phone with the vet.
Aside from the kidney failure she is also hyperthyroid and has extremely elevated white cells. The vet feels strongly that there is most likely a tumor because of the elevated WBC as well as the feel. As I type this she just fell into the water bowl. She is so weak and shaky she has little control over her legs. The vet said that she feels any treatment would only buy a week or so at most and I don't want to do anything that is just for me-also, if it is a tumor the fluids could actually do more harm than good. I don't want to cause her anymore discomfort-I can see it in her eyes, she's done.
Thank you for all of the support you have shown me for the past 11 years, this site has given me 11 great years with her.

Aww, Jennifer, my heart goes out to you and to Korbel. She's the last of the old, old timers and so heartbreaking that after all these years of FD she was not given the gift of passing in her sleep from old age.

May she leave peacefully in your arms and you have my deepst and most heartfelt sympathy. I will always remember Korbel and my favorite picture of her. So very sad but it sounds like time for her to leave. I know how very much you will miss her.......you were such a wonderful and loving caregiver to her.

    RIP Korbel wings_cat

    Jennifer,

Hope is right. Korbel really is the last of the old timers, and to know she will be leaving you brings tears. My heart is with you as you set her free.

Many hugs to you, and may Korbel reunite with our precious GAs at Rainbow Bridge where she will wait for you.

    Dear Jennifer,

I'm so sad to hear about your Korbel. I can't believe it's been 11 years but you have gone the distance for your little girl for sure. It sounds like you are still doing the very best for her, making the choices to do all you can in love and with love. God bless you and God speed that sweet girl of yours. Know she will always be with you, in your heart, and keep watch for her as she will most certainly visit from time to time. My dear Beau still visits me, every now and then, just around the corner or not far from my shin where he always rubbed. No one and nothing can take away the great bonds we build with these sweethearts. Hugs and love, wishing you peace and many cleansing tears now to help heal your heart.....

    xoxo,
    Kathleen

I'm so sorry Jennifer (tears). Sometimes the greatest gift we can give is release from the pain. Although we take on that pain in our hearts. I'm very glad you had so much time with Korbel. Sending you prayers of peace and comfort.

Dearest Jennifer & sweet sweet Korbel,
I weep tears for you as I am reading this post....It is sooo hard to make that choice...as I just let Gumpy Girl go to the bridge and wait for me on 7/15. She was creamated and now sits watch over the rest of us til we join her...It helps to know she is back w/ me somehow but sure does not stop the tears or the pain that her momma bean and furry sissys are feeling...Her older sister civvie Slappy just started eating again and I have an appointment for tummy tube on Monday... I did have it scheduled for today as she stopped eating 5 days after Gumpy was gone...She is now eating again with only 2 syringe feedings. My Sugar Bean is not quite so depressed and has finally stopped laying her head on all of Gumpy's toys! Momma Bean is doing better, but probably not as good as her furry family... I am not a stranger to loss by no means, but I have never been thru this kind of loss with a furry family member. My Gumpy fought sooo hard and I believe was so tired... and now mommy bean is left feeling guilty and releved that she is not in so much pain and confusion anymore.....
Super big hugs to you! Wish you were in texas in my area, I would pounce over and give you some huggs like no other!

    Dearest Jennifer,

I know that look. I know the toll it will take on your heart. I know you will find the courage it takes. It's because you love her so dearly and truly.

    I am so incredibly sorry.

Much love and countless gentle, yet brave hugs,
Deb and Nikki -- and, Giz, who will be so proud to greet your most special furry girl...
