I have not been here much in a long time but I let my baby girl, my fractious princess, my Moochiebeast go today. It was one of the hardest things I have ever done but it was time. Her poor old body was shutting down and I promised her a long time ago that I wouldn’t go through extraordinary measures to keep her here with me. She so hated being messed with. It was time to honor the promise.

Over these last few months Moochie has been steadily getting more frail. She had been eating her Kitten Chow but hadn’t needed insulin for ages other than sporadically because she didn't eat much. This week she quit eating completely. Not one bite of food since Sunday. I knew it was coming. I tried to put it off with the hope that fluids, bupe and B12 would help. Nothing did. It don't think it was a pancreatitis flare, it was time doing what time does :(. I could have taken her to the ER and I could have probably tried some other treatments but she was just tired. It seemed like she dropped to a shadow of herself these last two days. No longer was she my little bowling ball on toothpicks.

My Moochiebeast has been my baby girl since July 1993 when she really was just a 3 month old baby. She’s been through so much over the years with me including moves and floods and has remained my baby girl. She will always be my baby girl, my Moochiebeast.I love her and will miss her forever

When she was diagnosed with diabetes in November 2006 and later with pancreatitis I prayed every year that she would “just make it to her birthday”. Well she did make it to five more birthdays but now I didn’t have the heart to ask for one more. I love you, my baby girl

So sad, Susie. And she almost made it to another birthday - that's your Moochie!

Nothing is going to make it more bearable but time, and the memories of what a unique, interesting little cat she was.

Maybe she'll let Scruffy be her boyfriend......

I am so very sorry to hear about Moochie. It seems every time I am here there is such sad news about cats that many of us loved from afar. I am weeping but I can only imagine how this terrible loss hurts for you, who loved her best.

    Susie, I'm so sorry.
For me, Moochie was an FDMB classic and I loved hearing stories of the feisty strong willed missy. My heart breaks for you and I wanted you to know how much I value your friendship over the years. ((((Susie)))) I hope the pain will ease as you remember her with (rueful and sometimes bloody) smiles.

    Peace and hugs,
    Carolyn

NO NOT OUR MOOCHIE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Another legendary board cat has gone over the Bridge. I am so so very sorry that it was her time. Many tears are falling for your special "beast" (said with love of course).

Moochie is flying free now, whole and healthy over the Rainbow Bridge. rb_icon

Sitting here at work crying again - but it's good tears!

Thank you all. She was a beast but she was my beloved beast. I found this pic of her this morning finally. Karen & Splash took it several years ago right before my baby girl smacked her

I always had a fondness for Moochie.... Maybe because I was a Mom to a "fractious" red-warning-label-all-over-their-charts - yet total love bug with ME - cat.

I am so, so sorry it was time to let the Moochiebeast go on..... Her reputation and stories will always be a part of FDMB. And she was so lucky to have you!

Fly free Moochie and land softly... you will be missed... If you're looking for a little like-minded companionship to get up to all sorts of no-good totally fun antics up at the Rainbow - look up Winston. He'd love your 'tude and beautiful tuxiness...

Sending you peace and comfort, Susie.... hope she visits you soon.

Thank you all so very much! I miss her :(

Moochie really was a beast but I loved her dearly. I really did not have the heart to keep her with me for me and I promised both of us that I would never put a feeding tube in her or attempt other extraordinary measures with her. She would have hated that and fought it and it wasn't going to stop time so I didn't want to upset her any more than her natural disposition already did. This really was not a CP hunger strike. The vet believes it was congestive heart failure, secondary to the hyperthyroidism and there wasn't going to be any stopping that for my baby girl.

I will always be grateful for the last 5.5 years that I did not think I would have with her. She was so very difficult to test at the beginning and she did so love her kibble.

Thank you all for your kind words and for missing her too.

Susie, I'm so sorry Moochie couldn't stay with you any longer. I understand exactly what you mean about not wanting to stress her out with treatments or tests to postpone the inevitable. I think the greatest gift we can give is listening to them and keeping them from feeling pain and distress from illness. You did that even though it was the hardest thing.

You will always miss her, so I pray that over time your memories will lessen the ache in your heart.

    Fly free, Moochie wings_cat

((Susie)) I kept looking for your post on here but was looking on Community and so - didn't see this one - as a result am late in posting.

But you know, my friend, that those of us who have had these "fractious girls" - she and Mittsi definitely are sisters in kind - develop a special bond with them - probably because we are usually the only ones they show kindness to - :).

Moochie has been a legend of our board - and we've all shared her "ups and downs" through you - laughed with you and now we cry with you - we will miss her too - we loved her also.

    And Lynda -
    - Ahem, well, I can only say: Scruffy better mind his manners and move slow - or there will be more than a rainbow coming down from The Bridge........

Sending many hugs and comforting prayers to you, my friend.

Emmy & Dude (& Mittsi too)

    NO! NO! NO!
    Oh Susie! Not Moochie!
    I am so sorry.
I've been thinking about her for past few days and wondering how she
    is doing.
Moochie has always been special to me because she and Smokie are so much
    alike.
Being fractious we have to work in so many different ways to take care of them
and protect them all the time. And you did that for Moochie. You have done what is
best for her in every way.
This is very sad and i cry... for you and for Moochie.
    Love and Prayers, Maryjo

Susie, I'm so sorry. For a cat I've never met, Moochie held a special place I'm my heart. She lived life on her terms, made her own rules, and picked her person (I read the post on FB where you told how she chose you). I quite admired her gumption.

It's always hard to lose them, but sometimes those 'big' personalities -- the P-I-T-A, fractious, never quite surrender but yet love you with their entire being -- leave the most gaping holes. They can challenge you and drive you crazy at times yet still own your heart.

Fly free, Moochie. I'm sure you and several members of my crew are hangin' out at the bridge sharing 'war' stories!
