    Hello Dear Friends,

It's taken over a month to post this, but I wanted to share the sad news with all of you. We lost Crash's battle with cancer on February 5th. Oh, how I miss my boy! It's hard not to see him in every corner of the house, to think I hear him when the floor squeaks, to long for his purry hug after work. But he gave us a good long life, with lots of love, and a million memories. In fact daddy-bean says he's probably the most documented cat on the planet - but I know there are many more well documented kitties on this board.

Big hugs to all of you and your kitties, and tons of thanks for making Lantus-Land so friendly and comforting in the wee hours of the morning. You gave us almost three more years with Crash, all of which we owe to all our friends on this board.

A song I wrote for Crash follows these pictures. Rest easy little one. We love and miss you.

    God Gave Me a Kitten
(A song for Crash in his final days)

God gave me a kitten - Just a year from my vow
To be a wife to my husband - And he’s seventeen now

He’s given us joy - And a few sleepless nights
Survived diabetes - CRF and dog fights

But this one final battle - Will be the last of his years
For cancer can’t be killed - Despite all my tears

And the teardrops keep falling - As I pet and he purrs
Oh, how precious the memories - With our ball of sweet fur

Though in pain, he kept purring - And the smile in his eyes
Kept telling me, ‘Not yet, I’m not ready to die’

But this one final battle - Will be the last of his years
For cancer can’t be killed - Despite all my tears

And today I see death - As it calls my sweet cat
As his painful days lengthen - I know I must act

As a mommy, I’ll do things - I never knew I could do
But for you boy, I do them - For I’ll always love you

And this one final battle - Will be the last of his years
For cancer can’t be killed - Despite all my tears

But your days have now ended - And your pain is no more
I’m glad that you picked me - That day long ago

There’s a hole in my heart - That only Catty could fill
My sweet little boy, Crash - I long for you still

Now this one final battle - Was the last of his years
For cancer can’t be killed - Despite all my tears
Oh, how much of a fighter - this warrior, my friend
Goodbye, I will miss you - but thank you again

    Linda,

Thank you for sharing your song with us, and the story of Crash. Way too many sad losses here in recent days, but I guess it might help to think of them all gathering up above, waiting for us to come to be with them again.

I am so sorry that you have lost your beloved Crash. Thank you for showing us those photos and for sharing your song to him. He had such a long and happy life. I hope that you can take comfort from all of your happy memories of him. I know that I always loved to hear of his many adventures, and that he is one of the special ones that I will never forget. I know that he has found a place with lizards to hunt and warm, sunny places to rest with his many friends who are there with him. Most of all, he has found a place in the hearts of the many here who will miss him.

Linda, that's such a wonderful song for a wonderful cat. He was a beautiful boy. I'm so very sorry you lost him. I had to make the same decision because of cancer for my precious Calli who was almost 17 in September so really feel your pain as if it were mine all over again. I never could post it. It just hurt too much. That horrible killer cancer just can't be beat. We can only lessen their pain. I hope you can take comfort in the memories of the good days.

    Hugs,
    Melanie & Racci

((Linda)) I am so very sorry for your loss. I know how special he was to you. He was such a fighter. And I do wish that our tears could defeat cancer, that would be wonderful. Your song and words are amazing and made me think of my Remi(GA to cancer almost 4 years ago), whom I still miss. Hugs to you!

My heart aches for your loss. You had such a special bond with Crash.
Thank you for sharing pictures and your special song. He's such a handsome boy... never to be forgotten.

Someone else posted this poem awhile back. It touched my heart as I know it will yours.

And God asked the feline spirit
Are you ready to come home?
Oh, yes, quite so, replied the precious soul
And, as a cat, you know I am most able
    To decide anything for myself.

Are you coming then? asked God.
    Soon, replied the whiskered angel
    But I must come slowly
For my human friends are troubled
For you see, they need me, quite certainly.

But don't they understand? asked God
    That you'll never leave them?
That your souls are intertwined. For all eternity?
That nothing is created or destroyed?
It just is....forever and ever and ever.

    Eventually they will understand,
    Replied the glorious cat
For I will whisper into their hearts
That I am always with them
I just am....forever and ever and ever.

Linda, I'm so sorry. What a beautiful and touching song -- thank you so much for sharing it.

I have a couple of foster kittens and one is named "Crash" (his sister is "Ricochet"). I always think of your Crash when I call my little guy for treats and snuggles. Hopefully he'll go on to love and be loved as much as his namesake.

My thoughts are with you. Fly free, Crash...

Oh, thank you everyone for your lovely and kind words. It is still very hard to not break into tears every day, but I try.

Looking at all your posts brought back so many memories. Thanks for being there with us...then...and now.

I think we need a new ball of fur to help us over this hurdle. One we can actually cuddle and hug.

I thought maybe the little feral that moved into our yard might be able to be converted - but s/he is way too scared to come inside. It's been two months and s/he is more of a ghost than a kitty. S/he is really fast when s/he perceives that a human is near. We named her Skitty-Cat (for Scared Kitty Cat) and pretend s/he listens when I call and tell her food is in her box. Gonna have to do the TNR soon. I think s/he is about 6-7 months. Here's a picture of her (through the screen door).

A beautiful tribute to him - it brought tears to my eyes because, well, it is the story of so many of us. I lost a cat to cancer (at a very advanced age) last Sept. And others before her.

Do not give up on Skitty-Cat. Beau was a feral that I caught when he was about 14 mos old. And, being totally naive, brought him home to my apartment in Chicago where he lived under my dining room table for six months and only came out for food and when I was gone or asleep. It took a lot of patience and baby steps and, truthfully, about two years, before he was comfortable sitting next to me and being patted. Now he sleeps next to me most nights, gets on my lap and purrs sometimes, but doesn't like to be cuddled much. He loves his treats and always purred when I tested him. He is almost 14 and has been OTJ over 2 years.

Maybe Crash can be her guardian angle and tell her to trust you.
