My Dearest friends~~ I could never be able to thank you all in Lantus Land, FDMB, and DCIN for helping us with the vet bills we had the last few days--Love comes in all ways, and you have showed that to us!

The aspirate test the vet took on the tumor was inconclusive because too little of sample cells were collected..
Vet & Oncologist had a consult with us..They dont know whether it is lymphoma, mast cell tumor, or adenocarcinoma, but the oncologist suggested to do a biopsy & take out the tumor..could be successful, maybe not, would include a long hospital stay, and $6000-7000 at best PLUS Moonie's diabetes could complicate the surgery & she may not even survive..Tumor is at the junction of ilieum right near the meeting of large intestine..Surgery would join the area & she could also be chronic diarrhea, and incontinent.

So for now we decided to make her comfortable and see how she responds to the meds they gave her--
Cyproheptadine 2Xday, Reglan 2xday, Carafate 3Xday...Then maybe in a week or so, repeat the u/s and maybe try for another aspiration.
WE think that the surgery would be too devastating for her and very dangerous, who knows if it would work.
This has really sent me over the edge...I just dont know if I can take all this, the pain & loss is so great.
I once was strong, but I dont really feel it since this DX...
But My Friends here, Your Kindness Is so overwhelming to us, we can never ever repay what you have done for us...All our HUgs and Love always from us! Thank you Thank you Thank you--Maybe all be well & safe.

We're devastated to hear about what you and Moonie are going through. I am so so sorry for you I know how much you love her and want to heal her. This is so heartbreaking. Roni, I wish we could turn back time and make this go away.
I feel like Moonie partly belongs to all of us here, (((our sweet Moonie.)))

The decisions you face are not easy and nothing is certain on any path you take. But honestly, I feel you are doing the best thing for her. I am biased because of what happened to BigMac after his surgeries and a long hospital stay. I know sometimes surgery can save lives but the words "long hospital stay" are scary to me now.
There may be times she will need vet care to keep her stable but to have surgery with an unsure result... I don't know.

Be with her, make her comfortable, love her, let her feel safe in your arms. cat_pet_icon

Roni, I am so sorry to hear this, you all have already been through so much. I hope Moonie responds well to the meds. Sounds like you are doing everything you can and taking some time to determine how to proceed. This is not simple or easy, you know your Moonie better than anyone and whatever treatment or palliative care you decide on will undoubtedly be the right choice for her. Hugs and positive vines for all of you. cat_pet_icon

((( Roni))) I am so sorry to hear this awful news. After all that is going on, this is just too much for one family to bear. I hope he responds well to the meds and that a new u/s will bring a miracle for him. We are continuing to pray for you all. Surgery is a big deal and I understand completely your hesitation to put Moonie through this. You know Moonie, and you will be able to make better decisions after all this settles and you get some more information and see how Moonie responds.

    Hugs hugs hugs to you.

    Hi Roni,

I'm so sorry the news wasn't good. I think you've made the right decision, for what it's worth. I would do the same if I were in your shoes. I would not put a 16 year old through that type of surgery and hospitalization. I think it is too much for her. I hope the medicines will help sweet Moonie. She's been doing so well. Maybe with the medicines the tumors will shrink and you can build her health and strength back up with her at home where she is loved.

I hope you can get into the apartment right away. That will be good for all of you and will give Moonie a lot more of a sense of security. Give pretty little Moonie some hugs and kisses for me.

    Hugs,
    Melanie & Racci

I am so very sorry that it was not better news. I think that, as always, you know what Moonie would want, and I think that you are doing all of the right things. I am praying that she gets some relief from the medications and that you will get the strength you need to carry on in the face of all of the suffering you are going through. You are showing immense courage and I admire you greatly.

Please do not despair. You and Moonie are never far from our thoughts and hearts in Lantus Land. You are strong, because you have family and friends behind you.

Snowflakes are being sent for your sweet (((Moonie))).

    Roni, dont worry too much.
When our cats get stressed, they'll become ill. All sorts of funny & serious symtoms will appear. Obviously the family is under very stressed situation at the moment. I want to tell you about my kitty Sandy.
Sandy refused food one day suddenly 3 yrs ago. I kept close eyes on her. The next day, ate only a bite & throw up, because my cats were on free feeding at that time, I did not know if she eat any dry knibbles or not. The third day, she throw up after a sip of water. Took her to vet & suspected foreign body; she ate something which caught stuck? Ultra sound, scan etc etc...Finally the vet did the operation , open her up, found nothing but her internal organs were all out of place ! . Biopsy send to UK ...etc etc... non conclusive. Sandy was kept at the clinic on drip + med & the vet thought she's dying because she could not eat. I saw that she was in a good spirit &I decided to bring her home to do what I could. I tried every food; baby's food, every canned food but she could not keep the food down. Chinese herbal, of course! Long story short, I blend a kitten canned food & it succeeded. Slowly Sandy got better everyday. At that time, I even blended her fave dry knibbles to syringe feed her.
Do not to loose hope, Roni. Cats are very interesting little beings, they have their way of survival & agenda. I wish Moonie gets better soon. For sure the vet clinic is not a place she would love.

Oh Roni, this is breaking my heart! it is so hard to know just how far to go to pursue treatment. I think you are wise to be hesitant w/ the surgery. There are so many things weighted against Moonie. Keeping her safe and comfortable is so important now. Just be with her.

Sending all the vines we ca gather on beams of white light!

(((((((Moonie, Roni & Brad))))))) I am praying that the meds help her this week....and for what it's worth also, I would definitely have chosen to do the same as you are planning. You all have been through so much and stress is not conducive to healing. Moonie is much better off WITH you both than in any hospital. She will respond to the meds hopefully. I will add my prayers to those of everyone here....we hold you all close to our hearts. Be strong and please please..keep us posted.
A million hugs to you all and scritches to our Dear Moonie....

(((Roni))) I'm just seing this now (was sick yesterday). I am so sorry and saddened to hear about the test results. This just doesn't seem fair. I know Moonie is the light and love of your life, and you will do whatever is in her best interests. Considering the options and risks of a surgery, I would do the same. I pray and hope the meds she will be starting will keep her comfortable. Look forward to hearing from you today. We are all here for you, Roni. All my love and prayers go out to you, DH and Moonie.

    Dear Roni, Brad, and Moonie,

I do so hope that all went well today. It is wonderful that Moonie is eating and contributing to the lb. She may not like the meds, but what kitty does? I thought of you all today when I was on the summit of the mountain, and I sent your girl a special message to feel better and better.

I am so happy that you will soon be in your apartment and have a place that is really yours, even if just for a while. It's a great idea to get the kitty perch. Good luck with your shopping.

You guys are always in our thoughts and prayers. We hope that you will have another good night tonight. I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Lots of love and :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: s
