Good luck with the vet today. hopefully the vet visit doesn't make her BG high. no advice from me, but keep testing her maybe she goes up.

Wishing you safe travels and good vet visit vines coming your way. I hope she gets seen by a wise vet.
I would ask if she can get fluids, and if so, get some to take home for just in case, since it's such a long drive to the vet for you.

 

I like Dyana's idea about getting fluids. Also ask for a prescription for fluids and all of the lines, etc. They are much cheaper to purchase on-line than from your vet.

i checked for updates late last night. happy to see you must have had an uneventful night. i agree with the others. talk to your to see if sub-q fluids are appropriate for emmy when she's throwing ketones. they can give you the necessary supplies and show you how to administer them. since the vet is so far away it would be nice to have some on hand.

Hello, I'm Brian - Jenny's husband. Unfortunately things did not go well at the vet. It was determined that Emmy had high ketones, pancreatitis, and possibly pancreatic cancer. The vet said this might have explained the extremes in her blood glucose as well as her recent wasting away. Since he had seen her last he said she was not the same cat. Jen and I knew that in the back of our minds that she was seriously ill but did not want to believe it.

Jennifer did every thing possible to help and nurse Emmy back to health but some things are not meant to be. Jen worked so hard with Emmy it was unbelievable. From a woman who would not even look at a needle to what she was able to try to accomplish was amazing. With great distress, we had to make a choice we never thought we would have to make at such a young age of such a beautiful cat and friend. Emmy is sadly gone. We are devastated that we have lost the only bright spot, comfort and solace in our lives. She meant so much to us as all of your feline friends mean to you.

Jenny and I would like to thank all of you who helped us through this ordeal. We would not have been able to cope with such a situation without you. Your empathy, concern and self sacrifice is very uncommon in the world we live in today. We hope that all of you will continue to help all of the new "Emmys" out there which we are assured you will.

My heartfelt sympathy. I'm in shock but I know you must be in shock and hurting over this loss. You made a terribly difficult decision that is made only out of love and not wanting to see Emmy endure any unnecessary discomfort. These furry creatures have a unique way of planting themselves firmly in our hearts. And while their loss causes our hearts to ache, a piece of them is always firmly with us. Emmy had a life well loved.

I am so sorry for your loss. It's hard to lose any of our kitties, but the young ones seem to hit even harder. (I know, I lost a 4 year old to renal failure, and almost lost Lucy to DKA when she was 5).

When I lost my little Bobbi after having her such a short time, somebody told me that she had been brought into my life for some specific reason, and she had fulfilled whatever it was that she was meant to do so she left. Now I believe that she came along to teach me that I could handle more than I thought I could handle, so when Lucy got sick I was strong enough to pull her through.

Every morning, as I'm having my first cup of coffee, I pop onto the board just to see what I missed while sleeping. The very first thing I saw this morning was Sweet Emmy's candle, and I felt my heart break. I am so, so very sorry for your loss, and that she was taken from you both so suddenly and far too soon.
Praying that you find peace in your hearts and that the grief is balanced with beautiful memories of your sweet girl.
