What I use are Purina 'whisker lickin's' or Meow Mix 'Irresistibles' soft treats (be sure the get the soft ones, not the hard). Be sure to squeeze...
Thanks for the heads up!! Just put my order in (ahead of time) for a box of syringes. :):cat:
You’re doing a great job! I agree with what the others are saying about not feeding the DM… or any other dry food. Derek’s absolute favorite is...
No... you shouldn't give insulin... until you gather and record some testing history... so you know how he'll respond... you shouldn't give insulin...
I also agree that 3 units is too much... if it were me... I'd go with no more than 2 1/4 units... better safe than sorry... also... he had a AMPS on...
My thoughts.. looks like you should consider a increase in dosage to 1 1/4 units... the spreadsheet is showing a lot of pre-shots in the high...
As long as the food is low carb... I would let him eat as much as he wants... since he hasn't been feeling well, sounds like he hasn't eaten much...
By the way... how long have you been giving him the 2 units? .
So... you're less than an hour away from his next shot... correct? If so... I would wait until his normal shot time... test him again... and as long...

How long has he been getting the 2 units?

Have you been giving insulin every 12 hours? When was his last shot? Do you have a record of his numbers and shots?
Are you testing for blood glucose? What is his number? I wouldn't give insulin without knowing. If he's hungry... I would go ahead and give him...
Welcome Alicia and Maggie! To be safe... most of us start with 1 unit and adjust from there in 1/4 increments... the 1.7 units your vet is...

0 carbs per the Beech-Nut site... [ATTACH]
There was even some differences between the lines... between syringes.
I know... I was sometimes seeing a difference of a 1/4 unit or so... from the first line to where the plunger would stop...
I used the Walmart ones for awhile... and found the markings to be wildly inconsistent :(... that was a couple of years tho.
