My hands are still shaking as I type this, but did my first dose draw and shot attempt - not sure if I ended up doing a furshot but he didn't flinch or anything? Either that's a bad sign if I didn't get any in there or a good sign if it's not hurting him lol. Curse his luxurious long fur! Not shooting again of course. I am using the ReliOn 31 gauge 6mm needles - maybe I need something longer?

Planning on being up for a while bc I am pretty wired from all that, so we'll see if anything happens! Since its a depot insulin, would I see anything happening on the first dose, or will that take a while?

Time to catch up on work to distract myself from spiraling :bookworm:

Hey Armish!

Smell Roo’s fur, if it was a a fur shot you’ll smell the Lantus, it has a very distinct smell.

Even though Lantus is a depot style... Roo will still probably get some effect from it.

Good job shooting today! It will only get easier from here :)

My hands and everything smelled like Lantus bc I was shaking when practicing drawing a couple times :joyful: So I tried to smell his fur and it did smell like Lantus but it could have just been my hands rubbing on him trying to find a good spot to shoot lol. I have my vet tech teaching appointment tomorrow morning, I might have them shave me a spot so its easier in the first few days to make sure he's getting his dose.

Slightly off topic - I see you're from Alberta, I grew up in Calgary! So nice to chat with a fellow Canadian on here :bighug:

+2: 264, omg a yellow! Haven't seen one in a while and I am so happyyyy

Looking like it wasn't a furshot? Or he's just doing better on his own lol - either way seeing some improvement makes me want to do a little jig :woot:

haha, its a super groty smell but I guess Ill have to get used to it :D

My husband and I think it smells like band-aids! LOL

Curse his luxurious long fur!

Our Boris has long fur (though not as long as Roo's - what a beauty!). We part his fur until we can see skin, then make sure we see the needle go in. Maybe that approach would work for you?

The good news is that it gets easier! We each can give Boris his shot alone if needed. Testing still takes both of us, but I am working on testing him alone. I did manage to get a blood sample today, but need a third hand to pick up the meter!
