Thank you to everyone who was so helpful as I weaned Razz off dry food and onto wet while reducing his insulin.

He has had no insulin for 12 days now and his BG averages between 5o-60 AMPS or PMPS to 70-80 between +3 to +6.

He is only eating FF Classic, looks great, is maintaining his weight and is playful again.

At an estimated 14 years,... I only hope it lasts,... any suggestions to make it last going forward would be greatly appreciated.

THANK YOU!

any suggestions to make it last going forward would be greatly appreciated.

The most important thing you can do is remember, "once a diabetic, always a diabetic"....so make sure kibble stays out of his diet for the rest of his life as well as high carb treats and goodies

Keeping him on a low carb canned diet like the FF Classics is the only thing he should eat!! Test once a month so if he starts to fall out of remission, you catch it early, keep his teeth cleaned and if he starts to show any signs of diabetes like increase in peeing or drinking, test immediately!!

It's much harder to get a 2nd remission, but catching it early is the key to having a chance

I just want to second everything that Chris said. I am the perfect example of what not to do. When Cinco went OTJ after just a couple of months on insulin, I thought he was "cured". At first I tested weekly. Then monthly. Then every few months. I started allowing him to eat dry food. I'll never know if that's why he fell out of remission. His vet said it was because he contracted Bartonella, but I'll always wonder if it was my fault.

So keep that kibble out of the house, test at least monthly, and watch for any signs of loss of remission: peeing more, drinking more water, eating more, etc. Post here if you have any concerns. I hope Razz is done with the juice forever, but don't let your guard down!

Thank you very much for the advice.

I'm still testing him regularly because (to be honest) I'm still a little freaked out about all of this.

He will be tested at least twice a day for quite while.

Just got a 76 at PMPS +4...

crazy stuff for a cat that was on his way out 3 months ago....
