Yesterday

It's been a stressful 14 or so hours. Last night, right after doing fluids, Trix had some sort of pain flare up. I'm not sure if it was gas pain, or maybe the p-titis flaring a bit (or both), but she was siting very hunched up and obviously uncomfortable with the thought of moving, and she had that far away look in her eyes. (Ironically, right before we did fluids, I had a huge flare of anxiety for some reason....a premonition, I guess.) A little later on, she did burp a couple times, and seemed a bit more comfortable after that, so I was thinking maybe she does have some gas...and, when she has p-tits flares, the do seem to start with a gas build up in her intestines.

Anyway, she did eat well throughout the evening, and she did seem to become more relaxed, but I could tell her energy was just off. This flare happened maybe an hour after her first round of dinner, all of which seemed very normal - waiting by the door, Mannie Fuds Dance, impatient through pokey.

Today, she is eating very well, too, but not with the enthusiasm she had the last week-ish. And she definitely doesn't have the energy she had, either. I supposed the ABs could be starting to bother her now, too...she's been on Zeniquin for 13 days, and amoxicillin for 7. I am putting a probiotic in her fuds, but I'm sure that can only do so much with two ABs going at the same time.

She has peed without issue, and she hasn't vomited, nor does she seem nauseated since she is eating well (of course she does get cerenia on a regular basis anyway). She did poop during the day yesterday, but after the pain event when I went to go check it's "style", someone else had buried it. She hasn't pooped yet today.

Needless to say, this sent my anxiety through the roof. I was really looking forward to a relaxing evening with DH and the kitties, but I couldn't even eat, much less focus on anything other than watching Trix. And I was looking forward to a productive day off, but now I'm just shot. I didn't sleep at all last night. I tried to doze on the couch near here, but since this threw Zen's nighttime routine off, he was picking fights with the other cats pretty much all night long...as soon as I'd doze off, he'd go after someone else. Obviously he was also feeding off my anxiety. It's not much better today, either.

I really, really, really wish there was a way to know what the cause is/was...kidneys? p-tiits? ABs? simple gas?

We also got some wet, heavy snow dumped on us over night....blech.

I guess I'd better try to get something done....have a great day, L&LL

Amy

Hi Amy,
These type of days happen. I hope that Trixie is OK and it sure sounds like the antibiotics might be the cause of her malaise. Amoxicillin is a very strong antibiotic, as I know from personal experience.
Try to get some naps in today, ignore the snow, and hang out with your kitties.

Hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty

p.s. thanks for checking up on Rusty.

The poo patrol will keep a watchful eye for the report of poo soon to come. Poo patrol also can monitor belly gurgling and kitty farts - as Chief Inspector Crapdash is known to say "better out than in." :woot:

Paws crossed you all have a calm and restful day.

Anne

:bighug::bighug::bighug: We are all on high alert for any off sign from out furbabies. Sending lots of feel better vines for Trix and and comforting hugs for you. I hope you can get a nap in today while DH shovels snow!

Thank you, everyone. She did seem perkier with the last round of food she had - reaching her little nose out to sniff it and all. Of course she's sleeping right now so it's hard to tell how perky she's feeling since it IS the middle of the day and she's a cat after all. She certainly wasn't seeming to feel as blah as she was when she got sick a couple weeks ago, but definitely much lower energy than she had been for the last week or so. We'll see....

DH and I are going out for an early dinner with my folks...probably a good idea to get out of the house for a bit.

Dinner with my parents was very nice....I was an anxious ball of stress, but I tried to hide it.

On our way back from dinner, it dawned on me that one other thing we did differently yesterday was give her a B12 injection. We did it right after her fluids, and it was right after that that she appeared like she was having some sort of belly pain. Does anyone know if it really could have been a negative reaction to the B12? We did an injection last week and she was fine; this was only the second time she's had it, but I wonder if it was too much B12 for her if it could cause a negative reaction. Until we did the injection, the evening seemed like it was completely normal, and she was feeling awesome earlier in the day (I was at work all day). She is insanely sensitive to stuff these days...even the smallest dose of bupe makes her uncomfortably stoned, and a teeny sliver of cypro makes her scary weak, so I wonder if this was another reaction like that.

She does seem more "normal"...we had a very normal first round of dinner . No poop yet, but it's time to go stalk her in the LB...she is headed that way!

Any thoughts on the B12 would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't heard of B12 causing stomach upset or pain or anything.

I do send cyber hugs to you and relaxing vines to you. I hope Trixie feels better now, and you get a good sleep.

I don't know for sure if she actually had stomach pain; I was just assuming it was stomach pain because of her posture. She wasn't meatloafing; she was sitting up and hunched down. And her eyes were wide. She tried to take a step and stumbled a little. Again, I assumed it was because she was having stomach pain. I think she may have had a "nervous system reaction" to the B12. In addition to the stuff above, she was also pretty jittery with sounds today, like when DH started up the snow blower, or when one of the other cats jumped down off something.. Normally that sort of thing doesn't phase her at all.

I just found this on a human site:

Nervous System Reactions
After getting a vitamin B12 injection some people may experience a disturbance to the nervous system. These symptoms may include dizziness, difficulty walking normally, nervousness, anxiety, weakness and uncoordinated movements. Additional side effects that may occur with injectable B12 include a headache and feelings of pins and needles, according to Drugs.com.

Also, she did just have another normal round of fuds, and eyes look more normal than they did before. Before, she just had a look on her face that didn't look right...couldn't put my finger on it, but it just wasn't her normal expression.

I think the B-12 scenario is plausible. Why are you giving B-12? I must have missed that discussion. ECID and what doesn't bother one, might really bother another. I would play it safe and discontinue B-12.

Have a relaxing evening, Amy; how's your stock of "adult" beverages?

Hugs, scritches,

Ella & Rusty

Vetty recommended adding in B12 injections when Trix was in 2 weeks ago, I guess for her general health, given her kidney issues (which hopefully will improve with the ABs) and the potential p-titis. I can't believe the B12 injection slipped my mind until tonight. We were supposed to do one injection a week. Last week's injection went fine, but I wonder if this week's injection was too much/too soon. Trix seems to have a very sensitive nervous system, since half a dose of bupe is really too much for her, and cypro almost makes her faint.

I'm going to call vetty about it tomorrow - she's usually there on Sundays. But I am very leery of continuing the B12 at all at this point.

My stock of beverages is in fine shape! When I'm seriously anxious, I physically can't consume, but I think tonight I can manage a glass of wine to calm my nerves....she still seems a little wonky, but is definitely better, and I'm feeling fairly confident it was the B12 now....fairly confident.

I also haven't heard of that reaction, but it's not something you give every day anyway. I think it wouldn't hurt for you to hold off giving it next week and that should give you a whole week to see if she does better without it. And time to check with the vet about it also. She does seem like a pretty sensitive cat so maybe she's having a reaction when most cats don't, you never know.

I hope you have a relaxing evening Amy and things get better with Trixie. Big hugs, Julie

It only stands to reason that even a vitamin could cause a reaction, plus ECID. Given Trixie's reaction to bupe, she sounds like she has a low tolerance to meds(I am the same way, 1/2 of an Advil makes my stomach hurt!) You are lucky you can talk to your vet tomorow- it should put your mind at ease. Sending tons of comfort and stress-relieving vines - :bighug::bighug::bighug:
