1/25 Gussie, video today

Hi All,
Thank you all do much for your ongoing support and vines...
Gussie has been hanging in to celebrate with your successes....I honestly do not know how because he runs from me when ever I try to give him any kind of pain medication etc, so I am honoring his decision on that. He is off all meds. He is drinking water but has not eaten that I know of in a week..I know he is in pain but he is still staying close by and purring, grooming and alert and interacting with his world.
I have cancelled three appointments for the vet to come out to the house to help him cross. Each time because he is active and makes it unmistakably clear that he is not ready to leave. Today was one of those days. He came out to greet me when I got home, played with Lola and chased a string, went to town on the scratchers and has been jumping up to watch the birds out the windows. When I tried to talk to him about the vet coming he took one look at me and took off running...that Gussie Spidey sense at work. He hid under the bed, not "I'm ready to go hiding" but "oh hell no" hiding. He only came out after I told him "ok, you don't have to go anywhere. You can stay, nobody is making you go anywhere" now he is sitting on my bed next to me.
So I will honor his wishes. He is not ready, tho as I said I do not know how he is doing this..there is some plan he has that I will have to learn in his time..and as always give him the reins to..

My prayers continue for you and Gus. You are such a wonderful petmom and Gus as always is the one in charge. Sending lots of strength and positive energy that you and Gus will have much more quality time to share before he decides to travel onward.

 

Glad to see a Gussie report, even if the news isn't the best. What a strong trooper!!! Come on Gussie eat some fuds, they will help you feel better and give you more scratcher energy. Glad he seems to still be enjoying himself with some nice greetings and playtime. Too funny about the vet and hiding under the bed at warp speed, he must be learning a little english or you are learning a little cat speak!

 

I'm so glad he's being clear with you, and that he's spending more time with you. Blessings

 

Gussie is just doing things his way like he did with his OTJ trial. I'm glad you're getting to spend more time with him. Make the most of each moment. Sending prayers.

Because you are listening to him and not your own heart, than you do continue to give him a gift. I'm sure you've told him that he can go when he's ready. We found our own Gussie was holding on because he thought we weren't ready but when the AC told him we would do what he wanted, he said he was tired and ready to go when our hearts could set him free. Always so hard to know, isn't it?

.....at a loss for words..

 

I think that is what makes this so hard..he is in pain obviously a lot of the time, then I decide it is time and he gets wind of it and the day of, is in fine spirits, alert and looking like there is nothing as terribly wrong as there is..I keep thinking the ultrasound vet visit was a dream, could not have actually happened..but then he has another bad day and I make the call...and we repeat the process....it's so strange....
Perhaps I'm not done learning to let go of trying to control things and he plans to stay until I've learned what I'm supposed to.....I just don't know but am grateful for each day he feels good...

 

Wow! He is so amazing! And So bright!! I haven't been on the board the past week or so- but have been keeping you and Gussie in my prayers and thoughts-
I know he'll let you know when he is ready- and I am so glad that his time lately has been so full of joy and energy for him (and for you to witness) what a special, special boy!

Thank you all so much for caring so much about my amazing Gussie...This morning was not a good one but I am hoping this afternoon will be better..
I won't know until I get home and he tells me his plan for the day...
I think he is still deciding, he runs to the bridge gate and then remembers something he still had left to do and comes back to do those things... I leave the house that way a lot myself these days...

Les, from seeing that video and your pictures I'd never know Gussie was as sick as he is. He is AMAZING!! I know that your heart must be on a roller coaster ride. I admire what a close bond you have with Gussie and how you listen so closely to him and honor him. You are an inspiration to all of us kittie moms. I think of you and Gussie every day and I keep you in my prayers all the time. Please give your sweet, wonderful, amazing Gussie a gentle kiss for me.

You had me in tears, reading about your amazing Gussie and how he is telling you he wants to be with you a little longer. Are you sure he isn't eating some of Jett's food? He looks too good in that video to have gone so long without eating. Or perhaps he is showing that he can live on love. Either way, I know you will listen to him when he tells you it is time, and until then, keep enjoying his company and his love for you. We will be here for you whenever you need us.

Thank you all for your vines, kudos and prayers that seem to keep Gussie going. Shared the video with the vet and he has no other explanation of how this is possible other than sheer will on Gussies part.

No, there is no food he can be getting into, the civvies are CPC kitties. Tonight he was in the kitchen yowling for food just like the Gussie of old, and ran with the others in to get fed. I was so hopeful he would eat something, but no, despite opening everything and even trying bacon (one of his favorites) and even a can of gravy lovers ( I figured what harm at this point some carbs) and tho he would sniff it, he ate none of it. I think he has the rememberance of the routines and gets hungry wanting to be a part of them but the smell makes his stomach lurch and it's all over.
He is in obvious pain but still refusing any meds of any kind....
One day at a time...
My surgery is scheduled too now. March. Will be more complex than first thought..
Is it 2018 yet? I'm ready to see 2017 in the rear view mirror

Man, Gussie is proving he is one tough kitty. What am amazing cat. When it's his time, he's going to go out in a blaze of glory! Bless you Leslie and your little Gussie. I am glad you are getting to have such wonderful bonding time with him and him with you. When he's ready he will let you know. My prayers go out to you and Gussie.

 

Thank you all, Gussie is still doing this his way, and still defying any medical explanation as to how as he still has not eaten anything, just water. He is still refusing all meds and I've stopped weighing him but he is very very thin.
Yesterday I let him outside because he was telling me he had things to do out there. He went to his favorite spots and checked them all out, and went next door I believe to make sure his former owner was not there waiting for him. He spent some time looking that way after he saw there was a different cat and different people in his old home. I sat and read a magazine while he did what he needed to do. He actually made me chase him when it was time to come in, dog folks start walking big dogs some of whom are not always leashed..
Today he was chasing a lizard around on the screen door..
We take this one day at a time, on Gussies plan..

We made it thru my birthday together yesterday, and tho weak Gussie is still doing things according to his own plan..he still has things to do on his bucket list apparently...
My heart is battered but I am learning to cope knowing this is his journey and he insists on doing it his way...I hold my breath each day as I leave for work and hesitate as I open the door before I go in on my return, afraid that I will not see him looking up to greet me....and so far my heart has been rewarded each day I walk into the room...I know it will not always be so, but today it did...and for that I am grateful...
