Yesterday's condo

I hardly slept, I am so nervous for Iris's surgery. No clue how I am going to teach today, knowing that my little baby girl will be at the vet's. Thank you for all of the vines, prayers and good thoughts - keep them coming. They are much appreciated.

...and after all the excitement about Mandarin's blue preshot yesterday morning, the rest of his cycle was rather uneventful. Glad he's not diving on this dose, but a bit disappointed that he didn't make it into the lagoon at all. And this morning was the 6th cycle on 3Us. I don't think I can even consider increasing him until later this week when my schedule won't be as crazy. Walter hasn't seen any green in 3 days, so he better head down too.

They boys might be feeling your extra stress and worry. Sending lots of vines and prayers for wee Iris and :bighug::bighug::bighug: for you. I wouldn't increase Mandarin either until your schedule frees up. Walter...to the beach with a toe in the lagoon buddy but nice and easy.

Seriously, Walt? This is the day where you have to go for a dive??? Luckily, I decided to run home during my lunch break. I am so nauseous, I don't feel like eating anything anyways. I didn't think I would be coming home to a 58 though. He just got a bunch of HC food and I stayed for half an hour to test again before I had to run back to campus.

...and still no call from the vet. :( She's the third one on the surgery schedule, so I guess it is still kind of early, but I just can't stand waiting....

What a way to start a Monday:bighug::bighug:

Wee Iris Fritz sends all his kitty purrs :cat::cat::cat:

Walter look at you the sharks aren't friendly get back on your surf board and head for calmer waters.

Mandarin you need to quickly go pick up brother and both surf safe today:bighug::bighug::cool:

I came out of class to a voicemail from the vet clinic: Iris is awake and doing well. So incredibly relieved. I don't know any of the details yet, her vet will call me once she is out of surgery - but I am so glad to know that my baby girl did fine. :):cat::)

...and I wish I knew what Mandarin was doing. :arghh: Nice, safe number for Walter and there was not a shred of HC food left over. Well, on second thought, maybe that's what Mandarin was doing: gobbling up his brother's HC food.

Phew! Good news on Iris. Looking forward to the details later.

I agree with Amy, Mandarin may have picked up on your stress. Or maybe he just picked up Walter's HC food.

So glad Iris came through the surgery OK, such a relief:bighug::bighug::bighug:
I think Walter read the condo and took the threat of a dose crease seriously:rolleyes:

Hey boys, enough of the food swapping, that's no way to mess with the bean!!!

The vet just called me and she did not find a polyp. She got a good look at her ears, nose and throat and took x-rays of her nasal cavity and there is not indication that there is a polyp. So that is the good news. The bad news is that that probably means that the infection has left her sinuses damaged. @Amy&TrixieCat - isn't that what happened to one of your civvies? At this point, we'll just continue with her Lysine supplement and hope that her breathing will continue to improve a bit more as she grows.

She is also in the process of losing even more of her baby teeth.

Either way, my little monkey is hungry, vocal and acting like her normal self from the sounds of it. She'll be ready go home in an hour. Can't wait to go get her! And I'm sure my cats will all be happy to have their baby sister back.

Overall, such awesome news for Iris!

Yes, civvie Frankie has damaged sinuses (and damaged eyes) from a severe herpes infection she had when she was 3 weeks old. To be honest, it's just part of who she is now...she's extra snuffly and sneezy, but it really doesn't stop her from being a very active feisty playful cat (even at 13!). We really haven't had to do anything special for her, although I imagine if Iris gets too congested, you could always try things like steam treatments. We've never done that for Frankie, nor have we had to give her any sort of meds for her congestion. I used to give her lysine, but stopped quite some time ago. She hasn't had another herpes flare in about 9 years now. One issue Frankie had that took us a while to figure out is that the dust (or fragrance or both) from clay litter was hard on her, so we switched to World's Best and that is much better for her. She really just goes about her business of being a cat as if there is nothing "different" about her...they are amazing that way! I hope Iris's congestion improves as she grows.

I'm so happy to read the good news about Iris. You must be so relieved.

Walter, where you trying to distract Mama from her worry over baby sister? Nice job, Dude, but next time just climb in her lap and purr, okay? ;)

Mandarin, you appear to be directionally challenged. I'm going to go with that theory, because I can't believe you would steal food from your brother. Whatever you're doing, :stop: knock it off! You have no business on the pink floor.

I hope you can relax some tonight, Christina, despite the rambunctious kittens that are supposed to be recovering!

Lots of healing vines for Iris ! :bighug:

Good to hear that Iris doesn't have polyps. Hopefully as she grows the congestion will get better. I'm sure she can't wait to get home back to her brothers and sisters!!

It doesn't look like either one of them is listening. First green pre-shot for Walter in 3 weeks and more high numbers for Mandarin. :banghead:

Iris is home, but she is looking pretty rough. She is drooling a lot and vomited up some foam a few times. She is also showing no interest in food (well, not surprising). I just laid with her for a bit earlier, but then she curled up in her little strawberry bed that you sent us, @Doodles & Karen. She is also pretty vocal and I don't know if she might be in pain. Granted, she is a vocal cat in general, but she just looks and sounds miserable. Needless to say, I am worried about her. They said that I can give her some pain meds tonight - but do I give those on an empty stomach? And they sent home Torbe (not Bupe, which I always get after a dental). Our low cost spay/neuter clinic doesn't sent home pain meds at all, so I don't think I have ever given anyone pain meds after a spay.

...and she finally fell asleep a few minutes ago. I just hope that she will wake up feeling a bit better.

Do you have any baby food you can try and tempt her with to get her to eat? I hope she wakes up feeling better. Sending prayers. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Oh, I'm so sorry for Iris. I've only had male cats so I don't know the usual reaction after a spay
I also hope she will wake up feeling better- did she seem woozy from the anesthesia?

The anesthesia can certainly make them feel nauseated...poor baby. Did they give you or do you have any cerenia or ondansetron you could give her? I'm not familiar with that pain med....hopefully someone can answer about giving it on an empty tummy.

More prayers coming!

Oh no, so sorry to hear. I'm of no help in regards to meds. I remember Doodles being a bit out of sorts after anesthesia long ago though. Is there a 24 hr vet you can call just to inquire?

Baby food is a good idea! For now, I decided to let her sleep. I'll try some baby food later. And maybe she'll try some chicken broth.

Yes, I have some. How much would I give her? She's a little under 5 pounds. A quarter tab?
That I'm not sure about....maybe include it in your subject line that you need help with how much to give (unless you can call the vet - it's always good to clear that stuff with the doc). Hopefully rest will do her wonders...

She's sleeping pretty comfortably - so I might wait until tomorrow morning. She got her pain meds, peed (in the litter box this time) and went right back to bed.

And I think I will go ahead and follow her example - the sleeping part, not the LB. ;) who knows what Walter has planned,so I better get a nap while I can.

If she still has nausea tomorrow I would give 1mg ondansetron... I am not a expert that is just what I would do--absorption rate is not as good as once thought.
I would also give a little fluids to help much the anesthesia out-again jus what I would do...(maybe 30ish at a time):bighug:

Good news about Iris! Since I'm very late reading and responding to this  I hope she is feeling much better by now and back to her old self!
