My civvie Milt is very constipated this morning! He wasn't around for breakfast and I found him coming out of the litter box room twice so I followed him when he went in for the third time. What can I give him, especially when he won't eat???? I have been putting pumpkin in their food but maybe he can't have it? I do have miralax hanging around!

Unfortunately, I agree. I'd highly suggest a vet visit. This may require something as simple as a suppository or an enema (given by the vet of course) I've had cats "experience" both. My old cat Foster, had been given an enema. His butt basically exploded in the carrier on the way home! But he felt MUCH better. Lebowski was given a suppository. I actually thought he'd had diarrhea as he would go to the box and would just be able to squirt very liquid bits, small amounts. Once we got to the vet, she said he was actually so constipated that only the small amount of "liquid bits" were able to be pushed through around the blockage. Poor guy. But he "completed his business" right there in the carrier while I was paying for the vet service ;) Would have thought he was actually part Great Dane! heehee ;)

But they can strain and strain until they hurt themselves :( I think you're at the point where taking something internally is not going to help.

Suzi, I'm not an expert on this but Crystal has had the same problem a few times. Try giving Milt some olive oil, (but don't squirt it into the mouth) in the meantime check out this site all the info you need on feline constipation. If in doubt, get to the vets. Hopefully someone with more experience will be along to help you out. Good luck.

Crap, I was hoping to avoid that. He did eventually come down to eat and I did see him poop a little.

If he did poop a little, that is good. But can you call your vet and ask their advice? Or are they the type that automatically say, in a bored voice, "bring the cat in . . . . yawn (when is my coffee break?)" You know the type ;)

If you've got a great vet, ask if you can speak directly to them, and give them the details!

Good luck!

I would second the vet visit - especially with the weekend right around the corner. One of my civvies, who was in chronic kidney failure for years, had frequent problems with constipation (despite adding fiber to her food). When she would get really bad, only an enema would help. Not pleasant, I'm sure, but she would immediately feel better and start eating again. Good luck!

I called and am waiting for a call back. He is acting a little more normal, wants to go outside and ate breakfast.

Snickers, in the meantime, ate her breakfast and when Milt finally came down I had to give hr another 1/4 of a can of FF and when she was done she tried to steal Milts food!! So I gave her ANOTHER quarter!!!

Looks like you need some poopy vines for Milt! I just started using Sippery Elm Bark (can be bought at any health/vitamin store) for constipation/diarrhea. Obviously I'm not a vet but many of my IBD Kitty experts use it.

Ok and Snickers...come down from there soon please!

Thanks everyone!!! Still waiting to hear from the vet. Ugh...I like her but it takes forever to hear back from them. Plus they have the best prices!

+3 262 Hopefully this means she is coming down.

I am currently feeding them so maybe I can catch Milt in the litter box and see if he can go.

Good luck with Milt. Unfortunately, I don't have much advice to give, but sending poopy vines your way!

At least Snickers' appetite is still healthy. Somethings never change ;)

Ok, finally heard from the vet. They didn't want to do anything because they have never seen Milton but since he is eating and acting about 90% fine they think he actually had diarrhea. I was putting pumpkin in the chicken before I mixed it into both dishes so maybe it was working too well for him. I will watch him all weekend and no more pumpkin for him!!! If that is what it is pumpkin has the opposite affect on him and just makes him run. That is the only thing I can think of that would make him runny. They want me to fast him for a day, too. This will not go over well with him. I guess I will start with dinner tonight. He last ate at 4:30 (which I thought was 5:30 because I happened to look at the ONE clock I didn't change back when I fed them :banghead::rolleyes:)

Back on the poop wagon Milt. Don't worry the bean.

Snickers, you could shoot for some lower numbers, too.

C'mon guys. Cooperate!

She hasn't been below 200 except for the later part of the day on the 18th. How long til she earns another dosecrease? I don't know what is up with her but she just wants to be high lately.

Can't help you with the dosing! But threatening sometimes seems to work with Trouble:) Hope Milton gets back to normal soon- glad you didn't have to take him in to the vet:) Trouble LOVES the coconut oil!

He has been fine all day after this morn. I couldn't completely fast him, I did give him a tiny bit of just wet food.
