Good morning everyone,

I'm little worried this morning. First concern is Small Kitty being back in the
high scale, even an outside ride last night didn't change any thing, it usually does.
Secondly and also important is Big Brother. Since a week or two,
he started eating just haft of his food portion. I always add water after dropping
the can content so it turn almost liquid so the water is forced inside in case they
don't drink (witch seem to be the case).

Small Kitty is eating everthing but Big Brother stops after the top liquid is gone,
he leave the meat there. So what I must do is hide the food and isolate him,
even then, it takes 1h befere he's done, if done at all.

I took a look at the gum (gencive) last night and it's not nice. There is a
thin red line above the tooth and breath smell points to gingivitis, he must
be in pain but hiding it. The teeth seems not to be bad.

My question is, what do they do for gingivitis at the vet clinics for 400$ ?
Si it just tartar removal and you hope for the best ? Or they can correct
this kind of disease ?

Small Kitty is next, teeth are not as white as I would and there is a the
same kind of red line but only at the back.

Hope it's not just a 5min job where the are stealing you, I'll need
to withdraw my savings to address that :(

Thanks for you're help. For some of you where it's not very good,
hope things will flip for the better.

They will most likely need to put him under anesthesia and clean his teeth really good. If he has gingivities, he may need some antibiotics.

The page Sienne linked to on dental procedures isn't working correctly. If you scroll down on that page, you'll see where I've added a link to their library of articles.

Thanks Sienne, I'll study this up. I never do blind money spending. There is tons of result on the forum
but I didn't find detailed information. The internet also have information but often from vets clinic trying
to sell their service without that much information. Price compare is kind of hard, they never make any
mention of it, will need to make several phone calls I guess.
.

When Tuxie needed a dental I was holding off until February, since here (Manitoba) at least, February is dental month and it is 20% off. I was given the antibiotic ANTIROBE (clindamycin hydrochloride) to use to tide him over which really helped with the gingivitis. This does not mean you can skip the dental but it may help at least temporarily.

I found that there is a Pet Dental Month in Quebec, February. Might wait Small Small Kitty,
he got tartar removal in mid summer there there is no sign of gingivitis.

This site has information on gingivitis, this thing is frightening... Hope Big Brother
has not his teeth infected with root beyond repair... No teeth seems to be on the edge of falling.

Big Brother has all the symptoms, bad breath, doesn't finish his meal, hiding...

Ah poor BB! Yes, dental pain is not fun and if you remember that is what took Bubba out of remission the first time. If he is having pain due to his teeth, it is possible that besides cleaning the tartar ( which after healing takes care of the inflammation) but, he might need to have an extraction/ extractions (Bubba lost one tooth last time).

Glad you are getting it addressed as not eating is not a good thing for them so I would suggest getting him seen ASAP because the vet will have to access the issue and schedule accordingly.

I will address this fast. I found a vet clinic with the following rate :
Exam : 40$
Tartar removal (with anesthesia ) : 155$
Antibiotic : 20$

She said that blood test and scan is not essential for a 4 yo cat but she will
see after tartar removal what's next. Small Kitty will be another story. Luckily
this clinic has a Vet that has 20 years experience and knows about FD.
She'll be in charge of a full scale exam for Small Kitty but later.

In the mean time BB will be fed with Friskes Paté wich doesn't have any meat, it
can be turn into mud not requiring hard bytes.

Those prices seem very reasonable to me compared to what I have to pay in my area. Not having to have BW prior is a big savings. Glad you are on top of it.

Small Kitty is doing well this pmps and ketone is at the same level as usual.

Big Brother is another story, I turned food into a thin soup with a hand mixer and he's eating but
not that much. Have to hide the food when he stops or Small Kitty will jump on it.
Hope he'll resume eating a bit later...

Is BB in a meat loafing position to indicate pain? I am sorry that you have this worry, Sebastien.

Most of the time but he moves. He's just out from the outside (needing a big jump).
I've to follow him with the bowl of food cause even a little lick is more food.
