Hello hello! Happy Holidays to everyone!!!!!
Billie has some good news to share. She just went for a checkup with her cardiologist, and her heart has actually improved since her diagnosis of HCM/CHF in October!
There is no fluid, the thickening in her left ventricle is significantly reduced, and the size of her heart is almost normal. The cardiologist called it "highly unusual" and re-diagnosed her with myocarditis, rather than hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. She is going off Lasix, and hopefully all goes well. If I'm remembering right @Wendy&Neko , Neko also had myocarditis? The vet really has no idea what could have caused it in Billie, but maybe something autoimmune, which would fit with all of Billie's allergies which have really been flaring up in the past few months. She has been on a novel protein for about 3 weeks now, and it does seem to be helping.
So, she's off the Lasix, but staying on Plavix (blood thinner) because two of her vets think her stroke and head twitching episodes could have been caused by blood clots unrelated to heart disease, maybe. They said that pancreatitis can cause hypercoagulation, and she does have chronic pancreatitis/suspected triaditis. So, I'm going to try to be even more on top of that. One of her vets recommended starting her on budesonide or cyclosporine, but the other vet recommended giving the novel protein a few more weeks and sticking with Cerenia and things as needed. I'm more inclined to do that. I also added CBD in the mix to see if that helps. I've read some concerning things about cyclosporine, and read that budesonide is good for IBD but may or may not help the pancreas and liver in triaditis.
She's a complicated girl, but she seems happy! Her appetite has been good, and her BG has been pretty stable around 200, which for Billie, is pretty okay. She just climbed to the top of the cat tree for a nap.
Thanks for reading our update! I hope everyone is doing well and having a lovely evening.
