In case we forget to mention it in all the party excitement - Layla will still be diabetic, just a diet controlled diabetic. You will want to keep her on low carb wet food for the rest of her life (better for her general health anyway) and also avoid certain medications such as those containing sugar and especially steroids if at all possible. Vets sometimes forget so anytime Layla needs medication remind them that she's diabetic and make sure the meds are suitable.

If she ever gets boarded you should supply her own food and more than you think she will need to lesson the chances of them making an error or feeding her something high carb if they run out of her own food. Really emphasise to them that she shouldn't be fed anything other than what you've supplied and have them attach a note to her cage saying the same.

You will also want to keep testing her BG so you can be right onto it if she falls out of remission. The sooner you catch it and treat it the higher the chances of a second remission. The guidelines say test once a week for a month and then monthly forever after. I found it easier just to stick to weekly testing while Vyktor was in remission as there was less chance of forgetting that way and if I did slip and miss a test the next one would be within the month prescribed by the guidelines anyway.

Check the ingredients in the specific product. I have seen L-lysine powder that is fine but also some products containing L-lysine that are not. If you have any doubts post the ingredient list and we'll let you know.
