Happy Friday LL family!
Gussie threw up again this morning, froth.
AMBG 88:D
Glad the spike yesterday seems to have been vet stress, car ride stress, and has come back where it needs to be for him to stay OTJ.
Tomorrow marks officially one month since we partied. Where did the time go???
Had to break the news to my sister that I may not come home this holiday..I think in all my living years I've only missed being with her once.
His Appy was just so-so. Got him to eat about a half can of FF and a bit of raw. Water mixed into both. Gave him the CERENIA this morning. Hope it helps.
Holding my breath nervously while awaiting the BW results..
Surf safely kitties, vines and hugs to the Beans and kits who need them and some extra gentle hugs for those hurting, struggling and headed to the vets for answers and help:bighug::bighug::bighug:

I hear you about the holidays. I haven't broken the news to my family yet. I would love nothing more than to be with them and hang out on the SoCal sunshine (that's where I'm from). We had a beautiful little snowstorm here last night that is currently turning to mush with the oh so predictible Seattle rain.
Happy to hear that the little man got back to the sweet spot! Hoping for the good/no news with the the test results today.

Who says the calendar has to say December 25th for it to be Christmas?
In fact, many scholars say Christ was actually born in January, I think. It may still work out.

Good job getting your BG back on track, Gussie. Now we need to work on that spit up. Does he get a late night snack, Leslie (like +9 or +10)? Sometimes spitting up froth is from tummy acid due to an empty stomach.

I think it all depends on when Rome made their subjects pay their taxes.

As I recall, it has to do with the stars - the one the wise men followed to the manger wasn't visible in Bethlehem at the end of December. I just don't recall exactly when it was suppose to have been. But my point remains the same - you can make it Christmas whenever you can get together, Leslie!!!

Hi I'm home finally..
Just heard from the vet, you nailed it guys, he is having a bout of pancreatitis..sheesh I'm getting quite the ongoing education with this inherited cat! Good thing he's worth it!
I don't have the actual labs in hand yet, just my notes from the vets call just now, scribbled on paper slips.
Rentals ok for now, creatinine 1.5
Amalayse hi normal, but lower than last time he was in in June.
Low platelets which vet feels may be lab error
Pancreatic test hi, normal 1-26, he's a 39.. does that sound right?
Anyway he has P-titis, is getting cerenia 1/4 tab once a day, bupe we will start as soon as I can get it from the compounding pharm, probably not till Monday or later so will probably ask my doc for something in the interim for pain..Monday seems a long way away for him to hurt. That is being compounded into a topical ear gel.
We will also add mirtazeprine to stimulate his appy..that may or may not be compounded as her suspension has Sugar in it, may be in a gel cap, looking like I will be dividing and gelcapping) that
I will post up the labs soon as I get them.
He's still lousy on appy, snotty ( I think there's some sort of an infection or virus going on there, herpes maybe) and that's making him feel crummy too. Picking up clavamox for that in pill form. Gonna need one of those BIG pill organizers. After this summer I have zero ability to keep numbers in my brain..it's weird.
Question, is the FF chicken classic too rich ? It seems to be the only thing he will show an interest in right now..I stand in the petfood aisles and it's like my brain goes completely blank. I pull out the lists and they make no sense to me.

Any education on what is best to help him with this is greatly appreciated as my knowledge base is very limited on P-titis and from limited experience YEARS ago when metacam was the pain reliever of choice..

I need to get better at giving that snack, it did help when I could get him to eat it...thanks for the reminder!:bighug:

Glad you got answers for his appy and apparent pain. How wonderful that his BG's didn't creep up! Good job Gussie! Hope you can get his pain meds in the interim because pain causes numbers to rise. Sending lots of vines :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Les,
What mg of cerenia are they giving 1/4 of?
I give Rico 8mg per dose/24 hours

also I don't know what infection they are thinking but I have had much better luck with azithromycin.... clavamox is a good anti biotic but often causes tummy issues.....Also azithromycin is 1x a day (I prefer the pill but some have it compounded) I have never had a tummy issue with it.

many vets are programmed to use clavamox--

I wouldn't give an antibiotic unless the discharge from the nose is not clear. It's more than likely a virus and antibiotics don't do a thing for that. Why risk tummy upset whe there's a poor appy from p'itis already? Just my opinion.

Creatinine of 1.5 is excellent. FF is fine. Fat is not necessarily an issue for cats with p'itis but there are exceptions.. What I fed Max didn't have any effect on p'itis. His score got as high as 50 more than once. The number does not necessarily correlate with the severity but a 39 means there is no doubt as to the diagnosis. :bighug:

Lincoln only started eating again when he at Pancreatitis when i got mirtazpine for him... so if he stops eating completely its another thing to ask about
-- come on Gussie get better soon:bighug::bighug:

Oh my, dear Gussie and Leslie...hang in there..❤️❤️❤️❤️

Bo had a bout of p'titis earlier this year. Hydration (fluid support), small frequent meals of easily digestible food helped him in the turnaround. He had a/b injections (I don't remember which kind...maybe clindamycin? I'll check on that). He had cerenia injections early on with it.

As for feeding:

I started with easily digestible foods, small frequent meals, gauging as we went along, sometimes syringe feeding whet his appy or incentive to eat on own.

First I did bone broth, which he liked and it seemed to spur him onto food.
then baby food-beef or turkey (I like beechnut bc no cornstarch and no spices, etc ). I don't remember if I first offered the baby meat as is or mixed it with baby squash (such as butternut or winter squash). Added enough water &/or broth to add moisture and make it easier to syringe or slurp. Sometimes I added a small amount of baby oatmeal (plain). Sometimes I added small amounts of plain sardine water (he loved sardines and mackerel). I gradually added small amounts of probiotics, slippery elm or other supplements depending on his indicators and how he was improving in appy, strength.

I don't know if the liver shake for sick cats would help in p'titis support (Ella suggested it when Bubba got 'mouse-sick' recently...I'd guess that it might be a help...(wish I'd known about it then, too)...

My only experience with mirtazipine was a month or so ago. ECID it seems, some are fine with it others revved up. Sootie was on an eating and revved up round the clock frenzy for three days and couldn't 'turn it off.' We were all exhausted.

Hugs and scritches and love and feel better soon vines for you and sweet fella Gussie from us all..

Gussie!
Feel better soon! I'm crossing paws and holding paws with you, my surfer hero,
Yours in scritches and purrs,
Sootie

Hi, he was his usual blue number tho it was about an hour early, he was hungry and I wanted to take advantage of that while I could.
PMBG 106:confused:
But it's down here at +3 to 71:D so he's at least BG wise holding his own.
He wouldn't really eat tonite so I gave him some Zyrtec. I also switched to some straight raw chicken, he ate some of that about an hour ago. I figured maybe mixing up the meat would help if he's associating his favorite turkey with feeling lousy.
I'm going to pick up some interim Bupe tomorrow and the mirt, and will ask for a different antibiotic than the clavamox. Thanks for the vines, he could use them!:bighug::bighug::bighug:

I'm pretty happy with his renals, I was really afraid that was part of his issue. Vet was really happy with his overall BW too. I was pretty proud of that at the vet stressed Glucose reading..that's this protocol at work!:bighug::bighug::):cat: I will definitely ask for a different antibiotic.,hid temp was normal but he blew out some pretty green gunk today so I'm thinking there might be something going on. Otherwise i will ask about the antiviral Lola got. She also got interferon!! Cats only vet prescribed a ton of stuff when she had this same bug I'm pretty sure. They threw the book at it!
Thanks Elise, glad to know the good isn't necessarily a factor I need to worry over re type.:bighug::bighug:

thanks for all the great info Sina and for the link to the liver shake. I was going to go on the hunt for that:bighug: will reread, digest and take notes!!:bighug::bighug::bookworm::bighug:

heres hoping Gussie does the same! Im picking it up tomorrow morning. I'm going to have to print out a chart so I remember what I do when! We did that for my moms meds after surgery...:bighug:

it is 24 mg so that's the same, 8 mg. Dose once per 24 hrs.
I'll ask about the azithromycin

Pancreatitis is excruciatingly painful, so yea, do not wait until Monday. My doc gives me tiny amount in a clear liquid form (in a syringey type tube) that I insert into TiTi's cheek or tongue, and it absorbs immediately. No problem giving it, and TiTi fights me with pills.

Hugs and vines. I'd tend to feed him whatever he'll eat right now.

Thanks! I will! Will be there when they open!

He seems to like the raw chicken, he just ate some more. I did not mix anything at all into it but I figure it's ok for now, probably less is better re stuff to aggravate his system. He still looks pretty uncomfortable poor guy but he's not meat loafed. His face still looks pinched tho:(:(
