He seems to be doing a good job:)...Proud of him!!! For now I am holding his dose because I am still following SLGS. If I was following TR, would I have to take the dose increase or could I wait?

It is always your decision on whether to increase or decrease the dose. If you are not comfortable, you can hold the dose. We will just advise you what we think will help Yoyo. There may be reasons you need to hold the dose at the time.

For the first time I just used the Arkray Glucocard 01.....Yoyo's BG measured 120. I know everyone says not to compare meters but I have to in order to get some meaning out of these new low numbers. Yoyo's BG from his Alphatrak2 measured 222. Does 120 from the Arkray Glucocard 01 seem normal to you? These new numbers are going to make me more confused than I already am:confused:

WOW...with the new meter Yoyo is in remission:woot: I don't know if I will be able to use the human meter, but I am trying as I know the protocol is from a human meter.

Hope your Thursday is going well. Remember-tomorrow is Friday:)

I have no idea. I know that pet meters measure higher and the higher the number the more apart the numbers can be from a human meter. Take it from personal experience, you'll drive youself crazy comparing meters. It's best to just pick one and stick with it and go from there.

I know you are right but I have to do it! Seeing 120 at +9 blows my mind when I have been using the pet meter for over 3 months now. This is a whole new ball park for me and it is going to take a lot of getting used to seeing these numbers and putting meaning to these numbers. Right now 120 means nothing to me. I hope you can understand where I am coming from.

I understand. I just can't help you with the comparison. I don't have any knowledge for that.

    I’m moving yesterday’s discussion/questions here.

Under SLGS, you hold a dose for a week and then, for most, run a curve and base dose decisions on the curve and the data collected over the week. For YoYo, because you’ve got great data all week and basically a curve just about every day, at the end of the week, you’d base your dosing decisions on your data. If the nadirs were above 150, you’ll want to increase the dose by 0.25u.

TR is more “flexible” to use your words just in the fact that you can raise the dose sooner if it needs to be raised. If you see your cat is not getting below 200 within six cycles, you can increase by 0.25u or if the cat is only in pinks and reds, you can increase by 0.5u.

I’m happy to answer your questions as that is how we all learn. Please don’t think it’s a bother at all or that I have to put up with it. I love that you are learning and working to understand both methods.

The bottom line is you hold the syringe. We can tell you that he needs an increase but you are his CG. Certainly, there are reasons to delay an increase such as if you can’t be available or are not able to monitor him or if you don’t have enough test strips (although I highly encourage everyone to keep a large supply around at all times; I never had less than 300 here at any given time).

If you were following TR, I would tell you he needs a 0.25u dose increase. If there are reasons why you need to wait, as I listed above, that’s certainly something we need to honor. If you don’t want to increase because it makes you nervous, then perhaps TR is not for you. He is not going to heal unless he sees long runs of green numbers. That means with TR, you have to learn to shoot the lower numbers. If you haven’t ever looked at Carla’s Furball’s 2015 SS tab on her SS link, you should. Patience and perseverance but Furball did start having longer runs of greens and blues below 120.

You will definitely drive yourself crazy if you compare them. If you looked at Gracie’s AT/Micro comparison tab (which I did as an educational thing for members to show why you can’t compare them), you’ll see times when I got a 60 in the Micro and 89 on the AT and other times I got a 60 on the micro and 101 on the AT. While I never got such a wide range as 120 on the human and 222 on the AT, that large of a spread isn’t typical. Did you test with the same drop of blood?

But remember that the TR Protocol and SLGS were designed with human meters. Human meters generally run lower than pet meters. We do know the normal range for pet meters is higher than the normal range using human meters. As hard as it is, you just have to force yourself to set aside one meter and use just one. The majority of cats who’ve gone into remission here have done it based on numbers from human meters so we must be doing something right ;):)

Yoyo's PMPS is 194 with the alphatrak 2 and 113 with the Arkray Glucocard 01. These readings are from the same drop of blood. Does that seem like a normal comparison? I want to be sure that the new meter is wkg correctly as like I said before these numbers mean nothing to me at this time. Honestly, I would never shoot a 113 number but I know his BG was 194 with alphatrak 2 meter. I did use the control solution and the range was good.

There is no comparison. Again, on Gracie’s comparisons, you’ll see at one time I got a 114 on Micro and 160 on AT, a 104 Micro and 158 AT, 105 Micro and 140 AT, 122 Micro and 160 AT, and 121 Micro and 168 AT. See how they are all over the place?

You just have to go with it. If you want to use the Arkray, you’ll really need to learn to shoot 113. Scary, I know, but everyone else has learned to do it and much lower. You can and did do it because you shot the 194 AT which means you shot the 113 Arkray. Great job!!!

Ok....thanks for letting me ask questions. Here goes another one.....Under TR Protocol you suggest to increase Yoyo's dosage, is this because his nadirs have not been below 100 for 10 cycles?

Yes, he’s still seeing a lot of blue nadirs and he’s not spending long hours even in blue numbers.
