Morris is now home from his weekend with the pet sitter. Unfortunately, she fed him a lot of MC & HC and not much LC!! That, combined with dropping his dose down to 1.00u from 1.25u, has meant that his BG readings have been through the roof while away! I know he definately needs to go back up to at least 1.25u, but should I consider increasing him up to 1.50u since his numbers are so high??? I have updated his ss with all of his BG readings & put notations as to how much & what type of food he was eating.

Last night, he started throwing up - another indication that he has pancreatitis! He threw up again this morning. After picking him up & learning this, I drove straight over to the vet's office. As luck would have it, they were just doing up his bottle of bupe & were just about to call me to come get it!!! I was able to speak with 1 of the vets about his vomitting & she wants to wait until he adjusts back home to decide if it really needs to be addressed, or if it might have been a side effect from the higher carb foods he was eating this weekend & being at a strange location.

I will start the bupe tonight with his insulin (instructions say to give it every 8-12 hours for 14 days). We are going to a family dinner this evening, but will be home in time for insulin.

Hope to have some replies with advice/suggestions about tonights dose! Will be giving insulin at 8pm pacific time tonight.

Sorry to hear Morris isn't feeling well but great timing on the Vet's. Hopefully being home again will get things settled down.
Too bad about the MC and HC food while you were away - grrr.

I would just go right back to the dose you were at before you left (1.25). We'll pick up where we left off. Hopefully the vomiting is just from the high carb food. Get a ketone test tonight if you can just to be sure.

Thankfully, now that he is back home relaxing & eating LC once again, his number is coming down a bit! Thank you Libby for the dosing advice....I did stick with the 1.25u tonight. I guess this counts as a dosecrease & needs to be held for at least 6 doses.....correct? Thank you to all who have sent well-wishes for Morris as well!!

I think I managed to get the first dose of bupe into him this evening. I was a little surprised at how quickly the plunger on the dosing syringe went down! He was licking his lips afterwards....hopefully that is a good sign that he got something into him!!!

We were out at our family function this evening a little longer than anticipated....not sure if we will be able to get the SQ fluids into him this evening or not (I have been giving 250mls every other day & he is due today).

I am in a lot of pain from what the *specialist* I saw this morning did to me! I have now taken a bunch of my pain meds & plan to go to bed very shortly! Hopefully I will be feeling better by morning & will be able to make it through the day at work tomorrow! Thankfully, there are no kid activities on our schedule tomorrow evening, so I will be able to spend time relaxing with Morris (& watching the Olympics!). I will try for a ketone test tomorrow evening as well.

I'd also think about Pepsid, especially if Morris is vomiting.

Re. the bupe - are you giving this as a sub-q shot or orally? If the latter, I'm presuming you know that you place it in the cheek pouch. It's absorbed by the oral mucosa and you don't want to shoot it down Morris' throat.

And the petsitter fed him the higher octane food for what reason?

Hope you're both feeling back to normal soon - hooray for pain meds when needed.
