What a day! Fluids were supposed to be in by yesterday at the latest. I used the last of mine last night. Then I was guaranteed around 2:00 today. I called and was on hold for at least 45 minutes. Told to come in 45 minutes. Got there and the $38.20 became 116 because they didn't have 1000ml bags but 500ml instead. I refused. She finally found Hospiria and they will be there tomorrow by 2:0o too late to rush to vet to get a bag and new prescription. Costco wants about $84 for the ones I'm supposed to ve getting tomorrow for $34. This is crazy making.

Max isn't any better. It will be interesting to see how he does without fluids tonight. I'll get one bag from my vet and a new prescription tomorrow if Walgreeen's fails me.

I'm so frustrated. I wish I could have an adult beverage but I have to go to a condo meeting that is going to be a killer.

So sorry Elise! Some wonder why people go "postal"....it's ridiculous. Lots of prayers Max man does well tonight without the fluids. Even worse to end your evening with a condo meeting but maybe you should have that adult beverage....it'll make that part more fun I think;)

It makes me mad just reading about it! It is just beyond me how pharmaceutical and medical supply companies can hike the prices to these insane levels... especially for something that basically costs nothing to produce. Fingers crossed that you will get the fluids for $34 tomorrow... and lots of feel better vines for Max.

He doesn't look good. I thought he was a little better this morning as he was actually meowing early but now he looks like a wet rag. I dread it but I might have to go to the vet again tomorrow.

I've just read the insert for Convenia and won't give it. Maybe baytril?

:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Civvie Zen is currently on Orbax for his abscessed anal gland and he's tolerating it well so far. I don't know if it's indicated for URIs or not, but it could be worth looking into.

I hope the fluids mess gets straightened out....beyond frustrating....

Thanks. I'm going to call with an update voicemail by morning and see about that or baytril or clavamox or ? I'm going to ask mr. Google too.

I might just go postal tonight at the meeting. I'm at the limit of patience.

I'm sorry about the mess with the fluids. I hope you can get some tomorrow. Sending prayers for you and Max. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Sorry to hear about all the mix-ups with the fluids....I'm sure that adds a lot of stress to your evening that you just don't need!!

Try to hold it together for the condo meeting though....You don't want to end up homeless on top of everything else ;)

As for which AB, I really can't say. I know that when China (and the civvies) all had the URI's, the vet got a sample off China's nose and looked under the microscope before prescribing the Baytril....it didn't effect anybody's appetites either, but I know it's a very strong antibiotic and has to be dosed carefully

I hear so many horror stories here about how Clavamox makes kitties stop eating or nauseous .....I know keeping Max eating is already one of your challenges, so discuss the options thoroughly with your vet

Sending you many vines and hugs :bighug::bighug::bighug:

just fyi on Baytril - check the dosage with Dr. Google. Too high of a dose can cause blindness in cats. And don't get a liquid for him - I got a compounded Baytril chicken-flavored for punkin and it tasted so bad that he walked around foaming at the mouth, vomiting every few feet until it was all out of him. That was a one dose bottle, and as I recall, it cost something like $40. Get pills instead and put something like a pill pocket around them, or in a gel cap, and poke them down Max's throat. If you need that one.

Clavamox usually seems to be tolerated well in cats.

yi yi yi on the fluids. It does sound VERY frustrating.

I hope he perks up, poor little guy. Limp rag isn't a very encouraging description. He must feel yucky.

No advice, but just wanted to send some hugs and tons of vines for you and Max and your mom. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

I am praying for you Elise, even though I haven't been online, you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Did they do a culture? That would tell them what AB to give him. My kitties have had Clavamox, Baytril and Zeniquin for various URIs.

How aggravating that fluid debacle sounds. I hope you can get it sorted out tomorrow.

Sending vines and prayers.

What a frustrating time you are having Elise, one way and the other. I hope you get the fluids at the lower option, crazy pricing system.

Sending heaps of vines for poor Max, hope he feels better soon :bighug:

He started sneezing the day after he had the US. I guess he either caught something there or the stress brought it on. I've been giving him lysine and Zyrtec since Saturday night. It might be a virus so I don't know if he even needs an antibiotic. He's eating but I think that is the Zyrtec being an appetite stimulant.

@julie & punkin (ga) I only gave Max pills in gel caps. When I got him as a kitten he had coxcidia and was given a liquid antibiotic and he foamed. It was chicken flavored too. After that neither of mine got liquid again.

I knew you used gel caps but didn't know if you ever did liquids. You must've gotten the same gross chicken flavoring that we got. I felt so badly for punkin - it was obviously horrible.

To top it off, the vet that had it compounded made it 10 times too strong. My current vet had me dilute it with water 10 times less and still he foamed. I think some meds just can't be made to taste decent. Max was just 3 months old at that point so I don't remember what drug it was.

Not liking these numbers. I might not have creased enough.
