@Tanya and Ducia, Rex is 111 so I'm staying home for at least a couple hours to monitor before going to bed. I hope to catch cat naps in between tests.

@Bobbie And Bubba, I wondered where you disappeared to, but Tanya was great!

ETA: I'm staying home for at least a couple hours to monitor before going to WORK - not bed. My mind wanted sleep when I posted this earlier!

It looks like you shot. So please get a +2 to see how active this cycle will be and you might have to steer again with some higher carb food..

I go to bed around 9:30 most nights and I just happen to see your question mark and responded and yes you were in good hands with Tanya!
 
Mandy, I just wanted to say something about this statement you made on your thread last night:

"I just finished feeding the cats. They got a snack as I don't know if I want to make this a habit. I'm trying to figure out what to do during work because my smallest and oldest cat eats slow and he showed me today he didn't get enough this morning. The other cats hover around him, waiting for him to walk away, but he always comes back to an empty dish 3 minutes later. Although this may not be a bad thing... I have a dog to worry about during the day, too, with the wet food."

That will be a challenge for you when you are at work and you need to leave food for Rex to help steer him when he is in lower numbers. Many of us use automatic pet food safes that open up when we program them to. You might have to leave Rex isolated in a room with the food so you know that he is getting it rather than another cat or the dog. Multiple animal households do make for some challenges but it can be worked out so that Rex is safe.

ETA: I have another cat besides Bubba and 2 dogs. What I did was get both cats on the same food and the same feeding schedule. I feed 6 small meals a day. So the dogs, get fed pretty much the same way when I am home. How can I feed one animal more times than the other? I took everyone calorie requirements for the day and I divvy them up. It made my life easier.

Yes, I shot because I saw the 111 and decided I'll stick around for a while. I'm going to do a +1 and +2 for sure. I noticed last night food didn't impact Rex much.

As for the food, I'm actually worried more about Tanner. He's so slow eating. This house doesn't have much in isolating besides bedrooms. I don't like the idea of having a litter box in a bedroom. But if it comes to that, I'll figure it out.

I think the LC food you gave last night allowed Rex to surf and stay safe. If he had gone lower and you gave MC or HC the numbers might have been impacted more. It's a know thy cat kind of thing as to how he reacts to what carb %. I always put in the cell with the numbers the type food I gave to steer and how much. That way, I could easiely refer back to see what worked . If you look on Bubba's SS, go to last year's SS for a better example. This year I didn't have to do a lot of steering while he was getting OTJ again.

I think you are a good person to ask after seeing Bubba's SS. When do you know a reduction is needed? I noticed Bubba didn't always go under 50 for you to reduce his dose.

Good observation about me reducing when he didn't go under 50. When Bubba was coming down the dosing ladder, if he stayed in all green numbers for 7 days he earned a reduction. The other way to earn one is by going under 50 on a human meter.

There are no absolutes because we are dealing with a cat, LOL. How long can you be home to monitor. Getting a +3 when Lantus usually onsets will be a good idea and depending on that number you should know if you need to stick around.


ETA: If the +2 would have been the same as the AMBG or lower then I would say yes this is going to be an active cycle.
 
Nice blue surf going on and going down at +3 is expected since that is when Lantus kicks in ( onset) but I like that it is slow and gently. What time are you planning on leaving?

We have a saying around here "shoot low to stay low " but, each day his body could react to the insulin in a different way but getting to know his patterns are paramount and also to learn to feed the curve. So, you can't assume anything with these cats. :rolleyes: Have you seen that info on Feeding the Curve in the Stickies. If not, let me know and I will post it for you. It is invaluable information and will help you tremendously when you have to leave the house and you need to keep him safe.

Maybe another bite of LC as you walk out the door. The idea is to have him surf and he hasn't hit nadir yet.
 
Please do post that sticky. Right now, I'm in the mindset that if I won't be around all the time, I don't want to worry about leaving food if it's not guaranteed Rex will get it. I know.. ECID. That's why I said "should."

I cannot agree with that - your gave 3 - 4 teaspoons of LC at +3.5 and that amount carried him thru to 102 at +6! If the +4 thru +6 are the most active insulin hours for Rex, as it is with Ducia, then you actually get away very easy - one feeding=several hours of safe and gorgeous surfing.
I am not sure if what I am linking here is what @Bobbie And Bubba meant by Feeding the curve but do look at post #15 when you get a chance.
Rex is doing so good this morning!:cool:
 
Tanya made a very good point above with feeding the LC to Rex last night. You kept him surfing, no big fast drops that can cause bouncing. The link for feeding the curve is
Here Scroll down to post #15 Lots of great info on it. You will need to work out the food situation for Rex when you are at work unless you can always go into work later like you did today because there will be times when you will need to be able to leave food for him to keep him safe and know that he is eating it and not the other animals. It's a pain, but it can worked out.

OK. I have to think hard on how to feed the curve 4 days out of the week. Other days won't be a problem.. usually. We are very active in the summer. As I mentioned before, my husband said Rex needs to become a kayaking cat. But now that my other cats are on only wet food, I still need a petsitter anyway. Tanner would love camping, but Keena and Precious would be terrified!

I got maybe 5.5 hours of sleep, including my cat nap this morning. *shrugs* What can one do?

I just want Rex to settle down into the greens!! Then hopefully work the dose down.
 
Looks like it could be an active cycle with the +2 being lower than the PMPS. Can you give a tsp of LC food and retest at +3 so you will have an indication of how much longer you might need to test. I know you're tired but Rex is working it!
 
I'm holding off on the food because I test in just 20 minutes.

There's a strong possibility I won't work tomorrow because they are forecasting an ice storm overnight so we might have up to 1/4 inch ice on the roads. If so, that's fine wth me! I can catch up on sleep then.
 
96 and 103 are pretty much the same number so Rex is surfing along. A little bit of LC food will keep him surfing since onsets is just starting and he has to get through nadir yet.

Today has been a great day for him!
 
Dumb me. I thought with +3 103, I was fine. I still need to remind myself about the onset and nadir. :banghead: I gave a LC snack after getting +4 80.
