Good morning!
AMPS 149 shooting 1F

yup I think it's the Wellness Turkey (which is supposed to be 4% carbs) raising his levels. However I'm going to try it as a daytime food (both previous tests have been nighttime foods) to see what happens. And even if it raises his BG a bit during the day, it's still not a bad food to keep available for those days when we're going to be away for long periods of time......and both cats like it!

Boomer ate all of his overnight fuds except for a wee bit of his +9 and again ate all by himself! Allen also ate well overnight.

It's weight day for my boys: Boomer is 16 lbs and Allen is 12.6 lbs.

On Boomer's menu today: AMPS turkey pate, +3 turkey and chicken pate, +6 and +9 chicken pate

Yesterday morning DH and I went for a walk in a local park that runs alongside our Thames River.....as we were driving into the park there was someone photographing something across the river....we stopped and it was a Bald Eagle....the elusive bald eagle that I've been looking for and never found. So I jumped out of the car. I did get some shots of it (not edited yet) but he was sitting in a tree across the river so they're not good close-up shots, even with my big-ass lens! I will post one once I have a chance to edit it.

A few days ago I was hired for a maternity session (in May) and the following newborn session (she's due in July with twin boys). She mentioned having maternity pictures done by the cherry blossoms but in May they would be long gone. So I offered to meet her and her husband at a local park for a few quick shots last night. The trees there are absolutely beautiful! Attached is the sneak peek I sent her last night.

It will be interesting to see if the Wellness makes Boomer's numbers higher during the day too. I'm glad the kitties are eating well. Nice that you got to see the eagle. Beautiful picture of the couple.

Judy, is this the Wellness Complete Health we talked about before?
I believe that's the one! The cans I have just say "Grain Free" but I believe it was Ella that told me it's the same product but with a new name. I did email Wellness quite a few days ago to ask about it but haven't got a response. Dr Lisa's list indicates it's 4% carbs from calories. No other 4% food raises Boomer's levels though so I think her list may be wrong.

Interesting. My info shows 6.22/6.48 for the turkey/chicken. The first time I fed I mixed it together with Fowl Ball which has -0- carbs, but this time I mixed it with the Wellness Core Grain Free Beef, Venison & Lamb (7.24 carb) so it was def one of the higher carb "mixtures" I had given. Gizmo's number did run a bit higher but I also had fur shots to complicate the issue. I will make a note that these two foods must be mixed with -0- (or extremely low) carb foods in the future.

Silly cats! :cat:

ETA - I emailed Wellness also.

Subject: Carbohydrate for Feline Wellness Grain Free Pate

Can you provide carb count for the Feline Wellness Grain Free Chicken Pate and Feline Wellness Grain Free Turkey Pate?

Also, are the two foods (pictures attached) the same food? (just a change in packaging?) The food I am feeding is the 12.5oz green/purple can Turkey formula (wellness1.jpg) but I do not see it on your website. The only one I see on your website is the green/yellow can (wellness1a.png)

Ours looks like the first one, and attached is the info I am going by on Dr Lisa's new list. He had turkey which is supposed to be 4% calories from carbs. Oh and my calculation of Fowl Ball is 4.10% calories from carbs.

This food stuff is enough to drive me Crazy! :banghead::mad:

Here is the response from Wellness (not very helpful IMO) :banghead:

Dear Lizzie ,

Thank you for taking the time to write to us about our Wellness® canned cat food.

Firstly, we have done a label change for all our cat recipes. We also removed Carrageenan from out canned recipes. The new can picture you sent is the new look for the Complete Health Turkey.

Secondly, we have not received the nutritional profiles for our canned recipes. We have done minimal changes, the biggest being the removal of the Carrageenan, therefore the values will be very close to the original.

Thanks again for contacting us.

So is the new one the "Wellness Complete Health"? All I see is the "Grain Free" but actually haven't looked for anything called Complete Health.

The difference is that the one you are using is on a dry-matter basis. The one I use is on a carbs from calories basis.
Ya lost me. I do not understand the food calculation stuff at all. To be honest I just don't have the time to learn it.

If you look at their website they have two "Featured Brands" of food - Core and Complete Health. The Turkey (and Chicken) we are talking about falls under the Complete Health line, which, to confuse matters more, they have changed the label color and style.

The Complete Health is also grain free but the Core states it is "protein" focused.

And then confuse it even more I think yours is made in Canada and mine in the US! :)

I will try the Wellness turkey one more time but during the day just to see what happens. At any rate, it's a good one to keep handy for those days when we'll be away AND it's good for Allen AND they both like it!

On Boomer's menu tonight: PMPS chicken pate, +3 chicken pate, +6 and +9 turkey pate with fowl ball

For years I have been feeding Rusty the "grain free" Wellness turkey (in the green cans: I buy the 3 oz. cans, which are "product of Canada"; the larger cans (5.5 oz. and larger) are "made in the USA"). Rusty has always preferred the 3-oz. Canadian cans.
But, now that Wellness has changed their formulas (slightly, so they say), I think it may be a new ball game. The only one of the "new" cans I have seen--and tried--is the Wellness Core Turkey & Duck. It looks and smells different than the old formula. Rusty ate it, so I guess that's a plus. However, the rubric on the 3-oz cans is as follows: "made in Canada with finest global ingredients". In other words, they don't tell you where the ingredients come from. I would prefer something that says "product of Canada", because this implies that all the ingredients come from Canada. Some pet food companies go out of their way to say that their foods are "made and sourced" in the USA (or Canada, or wherever).
Years ago Wellness always used to say that they hadn't yet put together the nutritional values. Looks like they are still in the same mode! Whatever. I hope that Rusty will like the new cans, because the Wellness Turkey and the Wellness Chicken are his staples. I just sent to Chewy for a case of each. I'll be interested to see what I get--old cans (like in the picture on the Chewy website), or new.

p.s. Wellness Turkey has never had the effect of raising Rusty's bgs. And I like the fact that it is high in calories, because Rusty--a senior citizen--needs calories .

I guess I'll have to wait this one out to see if Wellness bothers to respond to my email or to see whether the "grain free" disappears from the shelves and is replaced by the "complete health". Meanwhile, for whatever reason, it does seem to raise Boomer's levels a bit. But he does like it and so does Allen so I will keep it around.
