So not a uti, thinks it's possible with the sub qing she has developed an infection. Fever 103.4. Got zeniquin.glad it's not uti. Good news she gained .5 pounds! Now she is up to 13.5. From 12.4 in jan. And even with the stress of the vets her bg at +8 was 264. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. Head bumps from phoebes :cat::cat:

I'm curious about this...Trix has been battling infections all year long. When she's on ABs she does great; goes off she backslides - generally feels like crap, low energy, poor appy but no fevers. She's on Zeniquin right now, too, because of a probable UTI (was peeing outside the box last weekend) What do you mean by the SubQs causing an infection? Trix gets fluids twice a day...

My vet says sometimes when we are giving fluids at home. It's possible because you are sticking them, bacteria can be introduced because of environment, handling. No matter how careful you are. Do our change needles every time? Do you use them more than once? Do you lay on counter, the sterile tip? That's what she told me. I give phoebe every other day.

This is what @Wendy&Neko gave me yesterday: If you think she has a UTI, the vet should get a urine sample and culture it, so you get the right type of antibiotic to treat it. You might want to read this post on UTI's and antibiotics by Dr. Lisa.

Yep, new needle every time, never touches the counter, etc. Trix gets them twice a day...been doing them for 3 years now.

With regards to her probable UTI, it's a long convoluted story that could take days, but in a nutshell since she's already on an antibiotic (no culture), her vet says that even if the bacteria strain is resistant, a culture really wouldn't be accurate at this point.
