Looks like Ravan's BG is creeping up. If it goes above 120 I'll increase a bit.
Peggy Sue is not eating since Yesterday. Even with the CBD OIL.:(
I'm still hoping for a miracle!

I hope Peggy Sue feels better. Have you tried FortiFlora? I find it really helps Willow's appetite, if she's not wanting to eat and I can't coax her, sprinkle some on her bowl and wow! It hasn't failed yet anyway, maybe worth a try. With love, Nikki
PS curious if you're still using calipers with Ravan? His SS is gorgeous :)

Thanks for the suggestion! FortiFlora works sometimes for Ravan,but not at all for Peggy Sue. I increased her dose of CBD Oil & that got her to eat a little. I find that The CBD I use works better than anything else to get them to eat.

Yes, my neighbor is still letting me use his calipers. But the Monoject syringes are supposed to be inaccurate. The calipers can't be doing anything if the syringes aren't uniform?
There are hundreds of people that have not used calipers & they did just fine. I'm not going to worry about it.

So far Ravan is doing good. I know that can change in a heartbeat!

Question , I was looking at "Benny's" SS ( OTJ Party) Just how high can Kitties bg go & still go into remission? I thought it "HAD" to be below 120 ? Benny's was 122 & 146 & stopped getting insulin anyway, & was still considered OK for remission??

I'm freaking out because Ravan's BG went to 106 +3 today! At what point should I consider going back up on the dose?

I suspect the 36 yesterday was caused by the depot of the previous dose and he never had time to adjust to the .5 before he was reduced to the .25 (as per the protocol). His numbers are definitely a bit higher but still good! The odd blue number is fine! But if you see more blue than green showing up you may want to put him back to .5. You can always post here and ask the question before actually increasing him!

I wondered about that, too. Caregiver choice, perhaps? Ultimately, all choices are the caregivers to make. All we can do is provide information. And truth be told, not every kitty goes into remission the same way. I've seen kitties go OTJ with a lot higher numbers on occasion. It all boils down to choice.

Under 120 isn't the goal some seem to think it is when looking to start with a strong remission. This is a quote straight from the protocol: "Most remission cats are able to stay in the normal range all of the time (50 to 80 mg/dl), although there are a few cases of sporadic higher and lower BGs."

We were seeing so many cats fall out of remission... cats whose doses were being reduced with numbers under 120 for 7 consecutive days as well as kitties going OTJ with numbers under 120 mg/dL instead of in the 50 - 80 mg/dL range overall that it prompted the posting of the following "Info post": Reminder: *earning* reductions and starting OTJ trials:

There seems to be a lot of misinformation floating around lately about guidelines for *earning* reductions as well as numbers to look for prior to starting an OTJ trial.

Hope this helps put everyone back on the same page...

REDUCTIONS:

Newly diagnosed diabetics - less than one year since diagnosis
  • reduction *earned* after a single drop below 50 mg/dL and following TR, or
  • reduction *earned* after 3 drops between 40 - 50 mg/dL on three separate days for kitties who have shown they do not hold reductions well and following TR, or
  • reduction *earned* when the cat regularly has its lowest BGs in the normal range of a healthy cat (50 - 80 mg/dL) and stays under 100 mg/dl overall for at least one week and following TR.
  • reduction *earned* after a single drop below 90 mg/dL for those following SLGS
Long term diabetics - more than one year since diagnosis
  • reduction *earned* after a single drop below 40 mg/dL for those following TR, or
  • reduction *earned* after 3 drops between 40 - 50 mg/dL on three separate days for kitties who have shown they do not hold reductions well and following TR, or
  • reduction *earned* when the cat regularly has its lowest BGs in the normal range of a healthy cat (50 - 80 mg/dL) and stays under 100 mg/dl overall for at least one week and following TR.
  • reduction *earned* after a single drop below 90 mg/dL for those following SLGS.
We highly suggest taking a reduction any time any kitty drops into the 30s or below. There are very few exceptions given for caregivers following TR who have collected years of data and KNOW their cat's response to the combination of insulin and food backwards, forwards, and inside out.


OTJ TRIALS:

Prior to starting an OTJ trial, one wants to see kitty mostly in the range of a healthy cat (50 - 80 mg/dL), but under 100 overall... with only occasional readings in the 100 - 120 range.

Remission is achieved when kitty can go 14 days without insulin while maintaining normal blood glucose values under 100 overall. Most will stay in the 50 - 80mg/dL range. Although, some will occasionally experience BG numbers up to 120 mg/dL.

Don't freak out! No worries here. I pretty much expected to see a higher number today as a reaction to that 36 yesterday. Post for guidance before taking the dose back up. I found asking for another set of experienced eyes to be very helpful with Alex....

I'm not panicking :) I still don't think he's going into remission. I've seen him shoot up to those red & Pink #'s so many times. Every day I think it'll happen again.
To me it looks like this dose is going to keep him too high? We'll see.
One day at a time! :)
