PM Cycle:
PMPS = 371
+2 = 382
+3 = 360

AMPS = 349

I moved Daisy's automatic feeder into the bedroom last night. I heard it go off, so I got her out of bed and took her to the feeder. Hopefully she will start to get up herself and eat so Gizmo doesn't get her food. So both cats are their own food last night. :) Daisy is having trouble jumping. Any suggestions on joint supplements?

Still not sure about constipation ... at last night's litter box cleaning there were 2 BM. This morning there was 1. I will have to continue to monitor.
 
I have tried a few natural things to help Bronx's arthritis, but may have to go the drug route since nothing has made a huge difference. Bronx is currently on fish oil, turmeric "golden paste", cannabis capsules & Yucca drops. I have also tried glucosamine drops but that seemed to give him dandruff. As far as the drug route, I tried gabapentin but that just made him extra sleepy and the next drug I will probably try is buprenorphine which is an opioid. I also bought cannabis oil drops that I will use next after the capsules run out.

Hope you find something that helps Bronx. Daisy is about finished with a bag of Well & Good joint supplements. They helped some but results were inconsistent. I think I am going to try VetriScience Glyco-Flex next.

With the post on weird alphatrak readings, I thought maybe that might explain the 400 numbers I have been getting. But nope ... did 2 tests on different ears and still pretty much the same number. Glad the meter is working ... not so happy with the number.
 
Has anyone noticed a difference in insulin absorption from using a long needle (12.7mm) to a short needle (8mm)? When the pharmacy switched Gizmo's needles from 0.5cc to 0.3cc, they also changed the length of the needle from long to short. I didn't know this until I got home and didn't really think it mattered. We switched syringes on June 20th for the PM Cycle. I just read an article http://petdiabetes.wikia.com/wiki/Syringe that states the length of the needle could affect the BG. Please look at his spreadsheet and see if you think this might be the cause of his rising numbers.

I'm just tagging some people to get more advice. Thanks everyone.

I don't know if the needle length matters ; I am not saying it doesn't, I just don't know. Maybe some others will weigh in.

Thanks. I have just been looking over his spreadsheet over and over trying to see what might have changed. I just feel like something is going on that I'm missing because he was hitting yellows and now we are back to some reds. Maybe I'm just being impatient but I have this feeling something is wrong.

I have been unable to check his ketones again because when he sees me coming he now leaves the litter box.:(

Yes, absolutely. Some people do see a difference in BG between the long and short needles. Whether that’s what is specifically affecting him, I don’t know. Theoretically, using a long needle enables you to get more into the subq area and can potentially increase absorption but ECID.

I, personally, never saw a difference with Gracie because I got the long needles by mistake the first time, then went to short, and then went to Terumos which only had an intermediate. But none of it ever affected her BG.

I think a lot of people use short needles because it’s easier to poke through the skin on the other side with a long needle and give a fur shot. I’d just watch and see if it continues. I do notice he has more red and less yellow.

Thanks. I will defiantly continue to monitor keeping this in mind.
 
I have been using the 8mm (5/16") needles. The BD web page recommends the newer shorter 6mm needles, at least for people.
They recommend them for 2 reasons: less tissue damage, slower absorption. They say shorter needles are less likely to penetrate muscle---which they say means less chance of a hypo. They imply absorption is slower subcutaneous than in muscle (longer duration I hope).
I've ordered syringes with shorter needles (6mm), but they haven't arrived yet.
 
Gizmo is a Maine Coon with very thick long hair. I need the length to make sure I get the insulin through it and into him.
