    HI all!
Hope you are all enjoying your Saturdays!

Overall, things are going well for my one eyed pirate kitteh. He's most snuggalicious. Lately, with the heat and humidity, he's been preferring to curl up next to me on the couch, and then he carefully places a paw on my upper thigh. If he drifts too far away and wakes up, he sidles over until he can again "touch. the. mommy." I love when I stretch out on the couch with my feet up, and he 'hugs' my lower leg and curls his head to fit into the arch of my foot.

I've been suspecting a p-itis flare coming for the last few days. I was hoping to stave it off with some prophylactic pepcid (oral via pill pocket). He got one dose every day (Wed, Thurs, Friday). Today was a busy day for me. He was fine when I left... ate all his bonito flakes after SQs. I had my usual social outing in the AM, then had volunteered to help a friend move. When I got home at 6pm, I found liquipoo in the potty and in a couple spots in the living room (euw). And some puddles of vomit and tummy juice too (double euw). Cosmo was hiding in the closet, so I knew it was him.

He seemed ok for the last 2 hours. I was putting laundry away, but he just came out of the closet and yowled and vomited up more tummy juice. So he got injections of famotodine and anzamet (anti-nauseant). I also cleaned up his backside a little bit. I'd love to give him some probiotics for the liquipoo, but of course, he's not interested in eating. My poor poor baby. I'll give bupe in a bit, if he meatloafs (havent seen it yet).

He has a vet appt on Tuesday (another look at TOHP, and a blood draw to check PTH/iCa, maybe a urinalysis).

Hopefully, this will be a typical Cosmo p-itis flare, and will be over by tomorrow morning. Fingers and paws crossed.

    Happy Caturday!

Wow, Cosmo, you are having a bout of something, that's for sure. I'd like to come over and bring you some home-made chicken soup. My pals Mannie and Tess made some for me when I had Gigantahairballitis the other day and I'm feeling fine now. Hope you feel fine again soon, too. Stay off of the rugs when you vomit. The beans don't like messed-up rugs.

    Re: 6/5: Cosmo- Oldtimer update

I had to say enuf was enuf and pulled him out of the closet.

I escorted (aka carried) him to a pile of treats (he ate most), the food bowl (sniff, but no eating), water bowl (sniff, but no drinking), and the potty (we went pee pee). Then i let him do what he wanted (he stayed in the hallway, then walked to the living room and jumped up to sit next to me).

We just had a nice brushing session, followed by a self-cleaning session (that would be him, not me), and in a little bit, I think I'll give him some extra SQs.

If he doesn't show interest in food food tomorrow, I have to figure out how to get some mirtz into him.

PS. Last night? I laid him out on a blue pad, and had paper towels, the blue waterless shampoo stuff, and wet wipes to clean him up (he had some, er, liquipoo on his behind). I'm tempted to get one of those wet wipe warmers that they have for babies, as he's such a good sport about letting mommy clean him up (he even rolled a bit over onto his back so I could get at all the spots needing attention), but he flinches when the cold wipe gets near his, uh, exit hole.

ANYWAY. All that to say Thanks to all for the well wishes. I believe my boy is on the mend, and I'm positive that the good wishes from you all helped immensely.

Ha. Snuggle sessions are pretty much free and easy over here. I'm into the whole unconditional positive regard thing.

I mean really. I just wrote a post about cleaning dried diarrhea off my baby. And then I laid him out on a towel and let him sleep on the bed.

We're not into withholding snuggles over here, nope.

But if he eats, I'll give him extra brushing!!

6/9: update to the update (LONG)

    Hi all... warning. LONG POST.

He's over the flare (YAY!!) :RAHCAT and is back to bcatrun_gif

We had vet appt with Dr B yesterday. Cosmo was NOT HAPPY about it. When I went to put him in the carrier, he peed ALL OVER me. I held him and directed the stream of his pee into the carrier. I had to put him down, shuck the clothes, find new clothes, wash out the carrier, dry it, then find him and start all over. Miraculously, we were still on time.

Of course, my first thought was "CRAPPUS! Now we can't get the urinalysis! CRAPPUS!"

Off we go. Dr B did a thorough exam and gave Cosmo lots of scritches. He told Cosmo "you know, I love you" and then told me that he didn't say that to all his clients, that Cosmo was one of his favorites b/c he's just so... good. He squished the TOHP. cat_pet_icon

Cosmo has lost quite a bit of weight. :-Q He's down in the 9 lb range, and he should be in the 11 lb range. Dr B is also worried b/c of the diarrhea during the last flare AND the weight loss AND during exam, Dr B says Cosmo's bowel is slightly thickened. He's worried it might be either lymphoma in the intestines/bowel OR IBD. :-Q He says that Cosmo has very good reason to have IBD, what with the pancreatitis and past liver disease. Another concern was that Cosmo was "pale" and worried about anemia. :-Q

TOHP is pronounced as... not going to do anything about it and it probably won't ever heal up. We could do another round of antibiotics, but Dr B thinks that unless we excise it surgically, it won't ever heal up. I'd rather not put him through a surgery, and it doesn't seem to bother him that much. It's not growing, so I'm leaving it alone (except to tell him to stop licking it).

Bloodwork shows he is more anemic than he was last time, but not anemic per se. Number does not indicate anemia, or explain the weight loss. :?:

Suggested course of action is ultrasound to check what's going on in the abdomen. And/or a course of prednisone.

Of course, when Dr B said the p word, I asked about the complications with diabetes... and he said "You're SO good." and acknowledged that the diabetes and the heart condition are contraindicated for prednisone use. So... I dunno. He said we have to keep it on the table as a possibility, but we'd see what else we could come up with first.

He had an abdominal ultrasound 2.5 months ago. The message today indicated that it isn't an emergency to get this one done. I dunno. I'm kind of broke, and I'm not really sure what the U/S would tell us (other than if it is IBD or not).

He's eating well today, even got a few bites of toasted pita (I know I know. BAD diabetic cat mommy. I KNOW. But he loves him some carbs, and they were teensy tiny bites (yes Cheryl. I know I"m rationalizing. I KNOW. I was positively reinforcing his interest in fud...)
He's super duper cute. While I was on the phone with a friend for 2 hours, he snuggled up next to me in the crook of my arm (head and right arm/paw resting over my elbow).

Yep. Eating normally. Monday he ate like a freaking champion. No barfusing (knock on wood), chowing down on treats, and interested in MY fud (in fact, he gave me a love nip the other day b/c he wanted some... bagel? pita? something carby... and had the nerve to look all cute and innocent when I yelped).

He just had some nibbles on brekkie. They have food available 24/7. I KNOW that cats dont need it 24/7 and in fact, should probably be on an eating schedule, but hey. They're 16 and have ALWAYS had the never ending buffet.

I'm going to call today and ask some follow up questions (aka, what is the treatment for IBD. what would treatment be if lymphoma. etc).

hey you didn't do b/w, did you? if you did, keep in mind that sometimes renal values are affected by a CP flare, may not be true pic.

Wasn't funny from where I was standing/getting peed on.

About a pound in the last 3 months or so. it's difficult to tell with him b/c of the ascites. At one point when he was super bloated, I think he was up to 11lbs 8 oz, and he was 9lbs 3 oz yesterday. I'll weigh him at home at the end of the week and see if he's putting weight back on. Dr B did note that Cosmo felt bonier.

    doesn't really sound like anemia? what's hct?[/quote]

I don't have the results yet, I just got the voice mail that the number for anemia was lower than it used to be, but that the number wasn't lower than the lowest # in range for normal.

it's been there. it's not a structural heart murmur (aka, the flaps/valves are fine), but it is still a concern.

we did do b/w. i'm sure we'll repeat soon. (sigh).

I'm still on the fence about ultrasound. I haven't had a chance to talk to anyone yet, but unless there's something we can do with the results... <shrug> The biggest benefit I can see right now is the shaved belleh. I love me some shaved belleh b/c the skin is SO SO SO silky soft (and pink!)

thanks all for the encouraging words and support.

The ultrasound would give you some info, but would not give a definitive diagnosis if IBD or lymphoma. You may want to go directly to the biopsy process. (((Cosmo))).
