Yesterday's Condo

Well, today hasn't been so good for Sammy. He started out this morning at 147 and has just continued to rise today.

He seems to be feeling fine, but his numbers are much higher than they have been. I still don't know if this is NDW or if there is a possible infection.

My question is, if he does have an infection wouldn't he be feeling bad? He is currently outside being just as frisky as ever, he doesn't seem like he isn't feeling well. I just don't know if how he is feeling is a sign or not a sign of infection. I do seem to go back to the possibility of infection when his numbers seem to go haywire for no apparent reason at all.

The only other possibility might be the food I gave him yesterday and the night before. I started transitioning to a different 10% food that is lower in phosphorous, and that particular food has rice in it. Is it possible that Sammy is just super sensitive to rice? It was only a small 3 oz can and I was only mixing in a very small amount with each meal so it wouldn't upset his stomach, but after that can was finished I went back to the Friskies Pate. Last night and early this morning I was using Classic Seafood (9%).

The vet wasn't in today so I wasn't able to run his numbers past her today, but I have a call into her and hopefully she will call me first thing Monday morning. But I am hoping that you all here will be able to set my mind at ease before then.

On the other hand, knit club was great today. I was able to complete a bunch of squares on my sock yarn blanket. I have a goal to complete 52 squares this year and I would need to complete 9 squares in June to get caught up.

I wonder if he might have gone lower last night and he's just bouncing today, but don't freak out over wonky numbers on just one cycle....if he's acting fine, eating, peeing, pooping good, he may just be being a cat.

Most of the Friskies Pate's have a tiny bit of rice in them, but they still come in under 10% carbs because it's such a tiny amount, but there's always a chance that a particular can got a little more than others

You may need to give the food change a few days. Some cats will respond to a change in food with temporarily higher numbers even if the carb count is the same as what you were feeding.

Looks like you have to wait this out for a few cycles to see. I know it is frustrating. It's hard to find a food that is both low phosphorus and low carb. If they take out the carbs tgey have to add more protein or fat. Have you tried Weruva or Cats in the Kitchen? Look at the site. All figures are posted. I'm glad he is acting fine.

Yep, eating just fine, and he even decided to pee in the garden while he was outside today. I think that is so cute. And yesterday, he did have a poop, I haven't looked today, but he is usually pretty regular. Hopefully things will settle down tonight. I guess I was just looking for confirmation that it probably isn't an infection if he is acting fine in all other categories.

That makes sense. So I might have to give him that food again, just to give him more time to adjust.

Yep, and because of his kidney issues we are also looking for a food lower in protein also, and the Friskies is close to, or over 40% protein. The Newman's Own, which is what I was trying to switch him to is only 28%. It is higher than the diet that they give for kidney disease, but much better than Friskies.

I think if he had an infection, he would be acting like he didn't feel good. It could be the change in food. I would wait and see how his numbers are in the next couple of days.
