Hey all! My civvie, Gira, is having some elevated liver #'s so the vet wants to switch her to I/D canned. Ari's been otj for about 2 months and they free feed, so I'm not sure about how the food switch will affect her (and frankly, I don't want to rock the boat.) I remember back a bit, someone had been giving supplements for digestive issues but I can't remember what they were. Currently they eat FF Chicken Feast mixed with Wellness (to bring down the Phosphorous level.)

They have me giving her "Feline Hepatic Support a5200" and have told me to look into Cold Laser Treatments (Erchonia.) Does anyone have any insight?

Both my girls are indoor 15 year olds.

    Hi HOpe

Do you have her exact liver numbers? Which values were elevated and the numbers?

Do you mean I/D (id) canned or L/D canned?

I can't comment without knowing about the elevations and the clinical picture.

I/D canned and I'll find out the exact #'s to post. Usually I get a copy of all test results for Ari, but was so shocked by the final bill for the visit that I didn't even think to get them for Gira.

I haven't heard of that supplement or the cold laser thing. Did the vet explain what the laser was supposed to do? It sounds really interesting!

Our experience with liver problems has been with Danny (hepatic lipidosis, liver cancer) and then this year with Plague (hemosiderosis - damagingly high levels of iron). The internal medicine specialist recommended denosyl at first then later denamarin (denosyl plus marin/milk-thistle). This worked great for Danny and Plague, and enabled their livers to get back to normal values. (Plague gets a liver panel again this week, so fingers crossed!) I think a lot of other folks have used the denamarin too. You can buy it online without a prescription.

    good luck,
    laur

i've been giving denamarin, fluids, B vitamins (regular B12 subQ and B complex in the fluids) and making sure cleo eats enough because of elevated liver values earlier this year. her ALT went from the high mid 500s (rising fast) back down to normal within a few months.

i wouldn't think the diet would matter as much. i'd probably just try to cut down on the fat a little bit. but i'm just your average diabetic kitty mom when it comes to feline nutrition knowledge.
