Yesterday

I was late checking Harvey this morning. My cell phone died right when I went to bed last night, and even though I plugged it in, it didn't charge, so my backup alarm didn't go off. I was still startled by the +4.75 reading, especially since he had eaten about half of his t/f/s meal. But he refused breakfast, which was the same flavor. I went ahead and gave him the tummy meds, and then I got the 50 . Out came the MC, which he was more than happy to eat. Meanwhile, I found two little puddles of vomit under the table. I suspect they happened sometime after t/f/s, but not right away as the food was broken down. That explains why he refused more of the same food at breakfast, and why he did start eating after tummy meds. It also explains that 50, so I'm not getting excited about a possible reduction coming up. He's eating well now, and is a little miffed that I haven't added more MC to that bowl.:) Sorry dude. That food has to be earned. The bummer is that I'll be throwing out a basically full can of food. I would think about freezing it, but when you need it, you need it now, so that doesn't seem practical.

Pantry update: DH went to Home Depot this morning to get supplies and is hard at work in the garage building my new shelves. I will be really excited if we get this all done this weekend. Luckily, we have no plans to go anywhere.

I try soooo hard not to be a hoarder.....that's not going to well I have a garage 1/2 full of boxes
Oh, Gill, don't get me started on the garage. Ours is packed to the...uh...gills :p! There is a car in there, but it's one DH is working on, and it has stuff stacked on and in it. I'm afraid we'll chase @Shelly & Jersey away for good if I post a picture of that! In all fairness, there's more of Mark's stuff out there than mine (but plenty of "our" stuff, too). I would give anything to have a basement!! Mark had to move some stuff out into the driveway in order to have room to work on the shelves.

i'll try to have pictures up tonite.
Uh oh. Guess that means I have to take pictures of my closets, too, huh? Sorry, Shelly. More benedryl! :joyful:

@Tiina and Hugo, yes, Harvey is an Abyssinian. Mark used to listen to a radio program on the way to work during which the host would go on and on about his two Abys and their antics, and that made him want one. Joke was on him - Harvey is emphatically MY cat. We got another Aby, Sasha, and she loved everyone, so that worked out better. Now that Harvey is the only cat, Mark is trying to win him over, but it's tough sledding.

Sending healing vines to all in need and hugs to all their beans. :bighug:
Extra vines and prayers to Elise for her DM, as well as for her own health issues. :bighug::bighug::bighug:
Still thinking of Amy and her family. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I hope Harvey's tummy has settled down now and he continues to eat for you. I hope DH gets the shelves done this weekend.

I'm Baaa-ccc--kkkk.....
heh heh heh.....

DON"T Judge Me! :rolleyes:o_O:cool::banghead:;)

I'm just time challenged and emotionally attached to "my stuff"

so ....

here
we
go....

this is my mother's dresser with my former bookcase stacked on top..... before I open the closet door....

upload_2016-7-23_15-28-47.jpeg

then the closet door.... all my clothes... can't get anything in or out but that's okay they are all just 1 inch tighter on my bust then I'd like....
this closet is 10 ft wide....

and the space above it... can't even get a full pic...

then
the other "bedroom" that is only like 10 x 10 .....

there is a twin bed in front of me.... jammed packed because of a loom someone just gave me that I haven't even finished assembling....
bed is going away....

hard to organize when you have company

Sounds like Harvey has had a rough morning. Poor kitty. Sending lots of feel-better vines and hoping the meds help.

I'm afraid we'll chase @Shelly & Jersey away for good if I post a picture of that!

I've simply resigned myself to the fact that Jersey has convinced you and Rhiannon to plot my demise. I knew Jerz had been too quiet lately. Now I know why. I just never thought you guys would turn against me. :(

Well I'm getting excited for Harvey on a possible quest for an OTJ trial :D:D:D Hope your tummy feels better little man.

Ha! I open 6 cans of food a day and throw out almost 2 oz of the 3 oz cans every feeding :blackeye::blackeye:

I would think about freezing it
I always hung on to it in the fridge for a few days because it always seemed that when I had to bring the MC out, he needed it several days in a row. Then, I would freeze it in sandwich baggies in dose sizes ( an 1/8 of a FF can) and throw them all into a tupperware container. And usually, I had an indication of when he would need it. It thaws in the microwave very quickly when it is frozen in those little servings.

I know. It's so sad. Think of all the homeless or shelter cats we could be feeding. :( I've tried the line on him that my mom used on me: "Think of all the starving kitties in the world that would love to have this food!" I get the same reaction that she got from me: Then send it to 'em! I'm not eating this stuff!:joyful:

@Shelly & Jersey and everyone else that isn't interested in @rhiannon and shadow (GA) and my messes, you can stop reading now.

You call that a closet?? This is a closet:

Every day all day and I get the same reaction  Not to mention he gets Ziwi Peak which is average $56 a case :arghh:

Ok Ladies...it's time to clean out those closets :p:p:p

i know how I accumulated more stuff....
i like clothes... eternally optimistic that the next item will make me llok better, thinner, gorgeous, whatever....
funny that is the only time i am optimistic....

however....

the 4th bedroom ( bed is covered in ds's girlfriends clothes - that's where she's sleeping) is jammed with my dm's stuff and dgm's stuff....
each of them had 20 photo albums plus....
plus my mother had a scifi collection that she started right after i was born.... star trek ( she was the president of the star trek fan club in the 60's)
buster crabbe /Tarzan ( 3 plus boxes) , star wars, dracula, patric mcgoohan ( she had big crush on him) and a few others....
and 3 full boxes of records ( lp's )
she dragged me everywhere when i was little... i met the star trek cast and she would go to every tv station and get prom stills....
she even has O.J. Simpson photos ( think it's from room 222)
i'm listing all of it on etsy ever so slowly.... )
and i have to go thru all those photos to decide whats kept and what isn't....
and I downsized all of their stuff and threw away a 20 ft long x 5 ft tall dumpster when I moved them here.

so my stuff gets crammed elsewhere and since i work 5 jobs already... who has the time?

maybe the star trek bubble gum cards will bring in a few thousand .... ( i wish , i wish)

looks to me like we are even steven.....

Well, Harvey. Other than the pukus and picky eating, a pretty darned good day. And, hey, if we don't count the pukus and picky, an all around fine day!

As for the clutter wars. Makes me feel downright organized. Sort of. Maybe.

Marilyn and Polly

@rhiannon and shadow (GA) I am SO lucky I didn't have anything in my mouth at the time. I have no doubt it would have gone out my nose. No. If you add anything to the empty space, it will throw my whole world out of kilter!

ETA: Bobbie, no need to be an instigator!

Come on, people, where are the minimalists to back me up? I'm outnumbered here!!!!

@Shelley, did you just move in and aren't unpacked yet? Guest room? :p

Note my clothes in the closet.

@rhiannon and shadow (GA) that is the guest room closet. I recently reorganized mine, so in the interest of appeasing Shelly, I'll take a picture of it in a minute. I used to have about 75 pairs of shoes, before arthritis struck. I got rid of about 50 and have slowly been building up my supply of shoes I can wear. I haven't counted lately. But of course, now I will! ;)

i realize i need to quit being such an optimist on the clothing.....
it never makes me skinnier....

the thing is... i reallly like all those clothing items and would wear them happily if i could so what i really need to spend time on is

duh duh duh da ......
exercise ....

And last, but not least, the garage:

To the right. My 1993 Mitsubishi 3000GT that he has been working on for about 4 years.

Yes that is an Arcade sized Space Invaders Machine. No, it doesn't work. We have an Asteroids machine in storage (Ooooh, maybe I need to post pictures of our storage unit! No, Shelly might have a stroke).

From the overhead door looking back toward the house.

Now I think I'll go take a picture of my nice, neat closet and count my shoes.... Maybe I can get it done before t/f/s.

Gosh, we must be sisters from another mother. When I went through my closet last month and reorganized I packed up about 10 boxes of clothes that no longer fit. I didn't donate them. I put them in storage! Someday....

I think Shelly must have just moved into that house and the van hasn't delivered her stuff yet.....
Right Tricia???

here....
my living room is actually normal.... because my dh has a hissy fit but at least he vacuums and dusts it....

dining room too

maybe this will make you feel better Shelly....

I don't have that wall of water anymore.... it died and I tossed it....

Shoe count: 52, not counting flip flops or slippers. I had more than I realized.

For those wondering why I am spending my time doing this, the A/C is out and it's about 82° downstairs in my house (probably 8-10 degrees warmer upstairs). The best way to keep cool is to sit at the computer with the fan going and a cold drink. Plus, it's very entertaining to two or three of us, anyway!
icon_lol.gif

Rhiannon, what do you mean "normal"? This is normal for us!! DH is as big a pack rat as I am, and much messier (I'm constantly picking up after him) I promise I'll post pictures of the living room and dining area when the pantry stuff is put away, and you will see what I mean. Your house is very nice, by the way.

Shelly, I have had three friends named Shelly in my life, and every single one of them is a neat freak. One is right up there with you on minimization. I was always very embarrassed to have them come to my house! Must be something to do with the name.

Okay, my "tidy" closet:

Harvey almost bookended his PS numbers again. He made a good dent in his dinner. Don't know how much he'll eat, as hot as it is. Hopefully it'll start cooling down soon and we'll be able to open the windows and turn on the whole house fan.

I moved to the States from Germany with just two suitcases in 2003 and then from an apartment into my house in 2010. By now, I am not sure how I ever managed without a basement and a garage... or how I managed to accumulate so much stuff in just a few years
We've been in this house since 1998. Longest I've ever lived anywhere in my life (grew up an Air Force brat and DH joined the AF right after we married). We had a lot of stuff when we moved in, and it's more than doubled since then. Some of it is from my parents' house after they passed. We have a large storage unit that is literally stuffed full of things, too. We'd need a pretty big basement to accommodate it all. But it would be nice to have it here and accessible instead of 10 miles away.

I think you and Rhiannon should just put a big sign on the outside of your houses saying "come on in and make us an offer"!!!!.....LOL

Harvey on the other hand, seems to be quite well organized.....he even has (almost matching) bookends!

Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory.... compulsive organizer who loves doing it ....
guess you don't watch that .... the national lab here is nothing but geeks just like that tv show....

thanks about the living room... it's the main reason we wanted this house..... that room was built in the 70's.... lots of mahogany wood.... the rest of the house is from 1945.... and i'm still stuck with the original kitchen ( cabinets, plain sink, no disposal, dishwasher across the room and electricity piggy backed from one outlet to the next)
It will be another 4-5 years before we remodel it.....

Oh my. I don't know what to say. I guess I'm a minimalist. I don't even have 7 pairs of shoes. I have a roll top desk also. When it starts building up I pull the top down but I get it under control quickly when I do the bills. When I just visited my father I took him up to room that is full like these. Just one of the rooms mind you. I asked him when your gone who do you think has to go through it all and clean it out? (Knowing full well it's me). I so hope I got through to him. It will take months to do it. I mean really what does he need with a closet of yarn, moms clothes, makeup etc.? Seeing my father's house has made me clean mine out big time. We went from 2 1/2 story house to a small (1090 square ft.) Ranch. I'm now selling some of my yarn stash. It will help towards Smokey stuff.

Harvey is looking good.

When it starts building up I pull the top down
I used to do that. But I can't get the top down these days! :p

I come by it honestly. My mother was a pack rat. When she died we went through three shredders, getting rid of all the paperwork they had - bank statements, etc., dating back to 1947 (the year they married)!!! One thing I have done is purge my files, but part of the clutter in our dining room is all the stuff I purged, waiting to be shredded. I can only do so much each day, or the shredder overheats!
and i'm still stuck with the original kitchen ( cabinets, plain sink, no disposal, dishwasher across the room and electricity piggy backed from one outlet to the next)
Nowadays, people like "retro" kitchens, but what they want is the look with modern appliances!

Sorry, I never saw Big Bang Theory. I think you referenced it once early in this clutterfest.

My father has everything from his college days. Now he thinks his college textbooks are still good. I mean really from the 40's. Every time I go there I 'borrow' some books, and pull some old statements to bring home to shred. Glad to know there are others.

The UPS store near me will shred 5 lbs paper free every Saturday. Every so often the run a special and shred for free all you can bring between 11am and 1pm. I have taken advantage of that.

i was doing that kind of thing with my mother's stuff each year when we visited at Christmas.
She had 20 boxes of textbooks and still wouldn't let go of them even after the washer hose broke and soaked all the boxes.... nasty.... moldy....
i told my grandmother to take a couple of books each trash day and toss them....
she did some but not enough.....

that's why we had that big dumpster ( that cost $650 for a week including the removal) and we had a week long yard sale..... got $2000 from that alone for all the furniture and big stuff....

she kept everything, even broken things....
i don't do that....
i just prefer to find someone who wants the item...
i have a lot of brand new stuff ( i really wanted grandkids) but that's not wanted by either of my kids...... so in a few years....after we see that is the path,

i'll let go of that stuff too.....

the problem is all my stuff is new with tags on it....
I'd like to wear it....

Well ladies, I'm late to the party but I have to confess that I have more shoes than anyone. I will have to count later and also count how many I have never worn. In my defense though, I wear a size 4 and they are hard to get. I buy them at Nordstrom when they have sales and the pickings are getting less and less since more people have large feet than small feet. I'd likely have even more but with Max needing me home in the mornings I miss out on going to the sale on the first resale day with my friend that wears a size 4 1/2 and has more than twice as many as I do. She did my shopping for me last year and this year. I started to count but kept losing track. I gave up when I stopped to kill a spider. No lectures on that please. I thought it was a moth.

Rhiannon, I've got stuff with tags on them as well as shoes I've never worn. You are't alone there.

This is getting so exiting that Harvey might go OTJ (anti-jinx and don't let him read this).

the problem is all my stuff is new with tags on it....
I'd like to wear it....
Yeah, I packed away a bunch of stuff like that, too. My diet has kind of gone off the tracks, but not completely, so once the A/C is fixed and I can stand to move around again, I'll get back at it. It's really hard to exercise when it's 82° in the house...
@tiffmaxee , the reason I had so many shoes is I never used to have any nice ones. I have always had a very narrow foot - AAA, and it is VERY hard to find stylish shoes to fit me. So when I found one, I'd buy it in every color! I always had a matching purse, too. Unfortunately, most of those shoes don't work for me now, with these stupid feet. I almost forgot that I put about six pairs in storage - the dressiest ones that I never wear, but keep "just in case".

I gave up when I stopped to kill a spider. No lectures on that please. I thought it was a moth.

Well, this post has revealed my two greatest fears: spiders and clutter. And on that note, I have to go to bed where I'm sure nightmares of clutter (and spiders) will plague me. There are way too many funnies in this condo, and I haven't been able to comment on half of them. I appreciate all the chuckles, everyone. I'm sure I'll re-read tomorrow and find even more that I missed.

ETA: Tricia, I see you're tagging people (like Shelley and Elise) rather than screen names. Have you been hittin' the Benadryl, too?
icon_lol.gif

I wear a size 4
OMG Elise when you said you were a small woman that was no joke :) I love little feet being 5' 7" my clod hoppers and a size 8. My forever best friend is 4' 9"...more times than not people thought she was my daughter. BTW, I have about 10 pairs of shoes but only wear 2 of them. Too many years in heals have wrecked me feet :p:p

Ok, on with the closet wars ladies.

Tricia, I see you're tagging people (like Shelley and Elise) rather than screen names. Have you been hittin' the Benadryl, too
Oh, Lord. I thought I caught and fixed all the times I did that.:oops: And I just opened my first COLD adult beverage of the day, too.:joyful:

OMG Elise when you said you were a small woman that was no joke
I can vouch for that. I've met her. She's petite for sure. My feet have grown over the years - I used to wear a 71/2, and lately it's an 8, but I buy 81/2 because I'm supposed to give my toes extra room. Talk about clodhoppers!
