Figaro's Liz

Still up in the 400s... planning a curve tomorrow AM. Will plan to test once before bed tonight, too.

Figaro got a new toy today (crinkly tube!) and spent most of his time in it since it arrived, oscillating between attacking the danglies inside and lounging in it :D He looks good and is acting pretty normal. Just want that BG to come back down....

Do we get a pic of Figaro in the crinkly tube? How much fun. Deep breath Liz, this is early days yet. Sometimes it just takes time to figure these things out. You are doing great. I wish we had crinkly tubes to play in, don't you?:D

@Idjit's mom With pleasure! A little blurry, but here he is in his new clubhouse (I don't think humans are allowed! :p). Thanks for your calming words... must remember that he is so much more stable than he was just a few weeks ago!

I purchased a ReliOn Prime today and just got simultaneous tests... still 400+ on AT, but 290 on the human meter! hmm...

What a darling puddy tat! His little face and fluffy ruff remind me so much of Idjit. I have read that the AT and human meters can differ more significantly the higher BG numbers are.
This from my file collection of information:
You cannot compare numbers from a human to a pet meter because you're using a different point of reference for them. It's more important that a meter be consistent, than accurate (we are generally looking for trends in data to adjust the dose, not single, exact numbers). There is also a +/- 20% variable allowed in any glucose meter, including pet meters.

So, don't worry, choose one to use and record the data. Then you are going to see the trends and patterns and be able to determine if a dose is working, or an increase or a decrease is indicated. The veteran members will be able to advise you on that issue.

If you have your spreadsheet set up for AT2 and decide to use the ReliOn Prime for testing, you can ask for help to configure the ss to accurately reflect the human meter readings.

I know you are new at this and you are trying hard to understand everything all at once, and get it perfect. I did the same thing. But you are doing great Liz, and you can only go so fast. Be sure to take some time for relaxation for yourself. I am so glad you got to enjoy watching Figaro playing and being happy today.

This is from the FAQs forum and when I read it, I began to allow myself to breathe a little easier and realize that I was doing all that I could at the moment. http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/letter-from-your-kitty-to-you-during-this-time.131186/

Ah Lou, I appreciate this so much. I have definitely caught myself giving Fig the "eye" while he is sleeping, and he looks at me like "seriously mom? Let me nap plz." I am doing a curve today (yay data!) but also have a few other tasks around the house to help me chill out and give him some space too.
