Her PMPS was 259, unfortunately she went up from there!
Her stool is better but very frequent.
Still trying to figure out the metronidazole issue, the tablets make her vomit so she has to have liquid. The liquid the vet carries has sugar in it so I have to get hers from the compounding pharmacy. That's why it costs $40. The pharmacy is not that far from here but I can no longer drive, taking the bus is about 1.5 hours each way, that is actual travel time and doesn't include waiting for buses or walking, and there is plenty of walking, in 100+ degree heat, I can't walk far and cannot tolerate the heat. The pharmacy used to deliver by courier, they discontinued that service and now ship by USPS, which means the med is driven around in unrefrigerated trucks for who knows how long etc etc. The last med I received from them was extremely hot when it arrived. They tell me the metronidazole "should" be okay. If it didn't work, how would I know if it went bad or if it just didn't help Eleanor?! They can ship on ice for an extra $14. They say the ice "probably" won't be completely melted.....

Do you think the pills make her vomit because they taste so bad, or is it something else about the pills? If it's because of the taste (which I know is really nasty!), you can put the pill in an empty gelcap to shield her from the taste. I do this with all of Trixie's meds. This is the gelcap I use, but you could probably use something smaller since it would just be one pill:

NOW brand #3 gelcap

Prayers to both of you!

I tried putting the pill in a gelcap a couple times, an hour later she started vomiting. Her stomach is so ridiculously sensitive. Maybe the pill sits there too long? I don't know...she's okay with the liquid!

She never makes anything easy you know lol!

Yup, you know what will and won't agree with their little bellies sometimes! My civvie, Zen, can only do liquids (because he's a beast to pill), and the metronidazole liquid makes him foam at the mouth like a rabid cat. The first time we gave it to him, I wasn't expecting that and it scared the you-know-what out of me!

Ah, Julie, I am just seeing this now. I am so sorry for Eleanor's trouble with diarrhea. Sorry, if I asked this before: do you give a 1 tsp of pumpkin in each AM /PM meal? It makes a nice difference with kitties that have IBS constipation and/ or diarrhea

Someone here was saying that metronidazole is something that you don't want to have kitty on long term as it can cause neurological problems. Some one please correct me if I wrong.

I started giving Bubba a probiotic with a digestive enzyme in it about 1 1/2 ago and it has made a nice difference. I give it twice a day in AM and PM Perhaps a probiotic could help?
