I don't think any of us can know the answer to that. But I would give him his insulin and have your husband make sure and feed him his regular low carb this morning. What's Teddy's appetite like? Can you count on him to always eat?

I'd try to get him to eat some at +1 and +2 - just a couple of teaspoons is usually enough to help a kitty surf. I'd give more at +3 and +4 if he'll eat more then - but I think the +1 and +2 are most important this morning. I'm looking at his cycle the morning of 8/20 and seeing how he dropped most between preshot and +2, which is why I'm suggesting feeding at +1 and +2 today.

Then if your husband can learn to test asap that would be really good.

He could. No way of knowing. Are you around to monitor today? If you have enough of everything and will be home to monitor I'd say shoot. Just be prepared to act if you need to. It's part of the dance. To keep skipping doesn't get him regulated.

OK. Got it. He usually eats well, but has had some off days lately. I am working today but my husband is home. Im going home at lunch to do a test and make sure hes good. I gave him his .25 this morning. Not sure I recorded it since it was a crazy morning and I was so tired from not sleeping last night.

Thank you. I forgot to type the insulin today. He got it. Same dose .25
I just tested and he's at +5.5 301.

Looks like he cleared the bounce last night and is starting a new one. It will be interesting to see what his PMPS reading is.

It's not uncommon for a kitty to go from one bounce to the next for a while. Like weeks. It depends on how long they have been sitting in high numbers before they began insulin and started getting back into normal range again. The body has to hit green enough times, and hopefully stay there for enough hours, that the body "remembers" that this is normal. As you go through this process, the bounces will lessen, both in duration and in intensity. Instead of lasting 3 days, he'll move to having a bounce last 2 days, for example. Instead of getting to 500, he'll only bounce to 200. The "cure" for bouncing is to "keep showing him green." It works, it's just a process that takes time.

The good news is that when he's in a bounce, you get to have a "save a strip" cycle. Stop testing now til pmps. It's likely this bounce will last at least 2 days, so for the next couple of days test minimally. I usually tested at preshot and one test in between until I caught a low yellow, or I expected the bounce to clear. Last night was so on schedule, which was why I was able to predict it. It was slightly less than 3 days, so I'd expect this next bounce to last at least 2ish. Starting Thursday morning I'd be watching for signs of it clearing.

Of course saying that doesn't mean it will happen - that's just what MOST cats do. Cats are notoriously unpredictable, but it gives you an idea of what to watch for. And enjoy the break. Sleep well tonight.

That's great. I'd get a +2 test in and if lower you'll need to get another one in before bed. If you can keep your title line updated that would be great. We're keeping an eye on several kitties tonight...including my own Doodle :)

I will. Thanks. How is Doodle? You are amazing and Doodles is a very lucky baby.

He's doing OK, thanks. I anticipate a pretty long night for us. His onset is +5ish and nadir is usually preshot. He's on Levemir which a different cycle than Lantus. I worry about his heart all the time, I know you can relate. :bighug::bighug: I'll check on Teddy at +2!

Yes, I can relate. Its challenging having the heart issues and diabetes. You are doing great! Prayers for you both.

Thats good? I thought it was bad. since he dropped fast. I just fed him a plate of low carb food.

Do you all think its safe for me to go to sleep? I have an important meeting tomorrow and I would love to get some shut eye if its safe. Last night I was awake for mot of the night and it was a very rough day. I can set my alarm if I need to wake up and check on Teddy. I need to wake up at 4:30 or 5:00AM.

If he ate good then yes, I think it's OK but please test him when you get up. If you can grab one more test around +4 or +5 that would be good but if not think he'll be alright until you wake up.

I would consider leaving food out for him now, just his regular low carb, and then if you can, I'd check at +4. Decide from that number if you need to test again - consider how long it would take him to get under 100 on your AT. I looked at the current number and compared it to the last test and decided if he continued dropping at that same rate, how low would punkin go before he hit his nadir.

I found it easier to wake back up if I stayed (slept) in the living room with the light on.

Karen and Julie, your advice is much appreciated. Yes, I too, have been sleeping in the living room and it does help to wake up. However, our air-conditioning stopped working today and the only air is in the bedroom. I want Teddy to be in the cooler air because of his HCM. He's not supposed to get too hot or too cold. Is a +3 helpful? Thats in a few minutes.
He just ate some more low carb food and I'm leaving some snack-age out for the night in case he needs to eat.

Go ahead and get the +3 and as long as there's not another decent drop then I think he'll be ok with food left out. One can never say for sure because they are cats.
