Happy appy, snuggly, feisty and anti-jinxes. With that AMBG I'm guessing she ate some of the overnight fuds at just the right time....I usually only see a BG in the 60s on my days off when I'm able to give her a "+10" snack.
So we had wonderful (
) new gelcap experience last night: It went down fairly easily after just a couple attempts with the first packing....but then maybe 10 minutes later, she barfed
! OMG OMG OMG. The gelcap was in her belly long enough to dissolve and release the pills, but not long enough for the pills themselves to dissolve and absorb. Of course I had to see what came up...there were two distinguishable pill pieces - I'm guessing one was benazepril and the other was pepcid, but I don't know for sure. Last night's gelcap contained 2 pieces of benazepril, 2 pieces of pepcid, and 1 cerenia. From what I could tell, only the two pieces came back up and the rest stayed down, but there was no way to know for 100% sure, so I couldn't re-pill and potentially OD her. What a frikken' nightmare. She's only done that one other time before, well over a year ago - but that time it was the entire gelcap. As for last night, she bounced back almost immediately, so I suspect it was some sort of gag reflex for whatever reason, rather than an upset tummy. It was bizarre, though....a few nights ago when I had to repack over 12 times and try pilling her over 60 times, no gag issues at all. Last night, a couple tries it goes down and barf. Maybe the gelcap picked up a fuzzy when she spit it out and I didn't realize it....I don't know.
So I was seriously helicoptering and on edge last night, and pretty much woke up in a state of anxiety this morning: Was she feeling OK because she didn't get full doses last night? Will she barf it up again - if I can actually get it down?
She seems fine this morning, but I am walking on eggshells. She had a normal breffis, and after the gelcap went down (easily), rather than doing other stuff that needed to be done, I just sat and stared at her for 20 minutes
until she got up and moved to another room. Usually I follow up with food about 20 minutes after the pill, then BTB. I waited 35 minutes after the pill, and it's now been almost an hour since she ate her follow up snack, and I have yet to BTB even though I'm exhausted. What a mess I am sometimes!
But she is snoozing now, so I think I will do the same....
Sending prayers that Cinco has a speedy recovery...we are thrilled that he's back home.
Have a great day, L&LL!
