Morning..erm, Afternoon All.

Ok I have a dilemma.

I've been waiting to shoot Dottie..but her numbers are a bit wonky. I'm using Protamine Zinc 100u/ml and the last dose administered was a .5u dose.

Here's her numbers
1/16/16
11:31pm BG 303. She was due for a shot. Protamine Zinc 1u (100u/ml) I gave it and I think it was a furshot so I didn't want to reshoot

Yesterday 1/17/16
2:15 am BG 314 I knew I'd have a wait because furshot. Next shot was due at noon
Didn't wake at noon, slept right through my alarm until 1:30 pm the next day.

1:57 pm BG 113 Noon was supposed to have been time for a shot. Protamine Zinc .5 u (100U/ml). But since I didn't wake up, by the time I did do another BG at 1:57 her BG had dropped all the way down to 113 so I couldn't give the noon shot.
3:03 pm BG 126
4:19 pm BG 146
6:00pm BG 144
7:41 pm BG 169
9:35 pm BG 203

Today 1/18/16 midnight...
I did give the shot anyway because it was so miniscule. Only .5u. I tried real hard not to hit the plunger too soon and I don't think I did..but her numbers actually started to rise.

12:18 am BG 211
2:54am BG 220
4:15am BG 226
7:50 am BG 190
11:04 am BG 153
Fed her some more.
2:14 m BG 129 . Here's where I am now. Can't give a shot now. What's going on? Hope I got this all listed right. I did feed at appropriate times. No food 2 hours before a BG. She's still not at normal numbers.

Geeze I hope this is listed right. I'm so tired I'm crosseyed. I've just spit out the numbers from the meter to make sure I didn't get the listing out of order. Halp!

Forgot..she does get fed more often than I listed. She eats so little at a time. I do make sure she doesn't eat for 2 hours before the next BG. Prolly shouldn't have injected feedings into that list up there. I'm just tired and sort of stabbing around. Her insulin is Protamine Zinc .5u (100u/ml)

K thankee Chris. I need to put this in my signature. Since at 2:20 she was at 129 should I feed her? I'm afraid she'll suddenly take a dip.

I think that if you can test tonight, you should go ahead and try the .5 dose and feed her now.....the food should give her a bump up before the insulin has time to get into her system but if you're uncomfortable shooting the 129, you'll just have to skip again and see where she is at 1am tonight

I know you're off your schedule again, so IF you skip now, you could get back on schedule tonight when you want to shoot...I think you want to shoot at 1am/1pm?

We really do need to find a dose you can give every 12 hours

I think skipping is wise. You might practice giving a drop of insulin when she reaches your target number (you decide that 180? 200?). To give a drop, pull up the smallest amount you can accurately measure (use water so you don't waste insulin) and let it out, drop by drop by drop till it is gone. Count the drops. The next time you want to give a drop, pull up that amount and let out drops except for one. Shoot that.

I know it is upsetting to have her throw low numbers and not be able to shoot when you need to, but it really is good news. It looks like her pancreas might be helping to keep the numbers low.

Or, you might try 0.25 units when you next have a shootable number, which you'll need to eyeball. There are some pictures of low doses here.

Yeah it sounds like mini doses are needed! That's good news since hopefully her pancreas are helping some. :)
