Risks
The most serious risk associated with the use of Adequan in cats is blood thinning, which has the potential to cause serious bleeding following an injury or surgery, reports Veterinary Partner.

Drug Interactions
Because it thins the blood, Adequan should not be used to treat cats that are being treated with other anticoagulant medications such as heparin. Additionally, it may not be safe for your cat to take Adequan with aspirin, ibuprofen and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications.

Considerations
Cats with bleeding disorders or joint infections should not take Adequan because of its potential side effects, warns PetPlace.com.

 

This is the same risk humans and dogs have with aspirin, ibuprofen, and other NSAIDS. It does not mean the drugs should not be used, just stopped before a planned surgery.

Cats, in general, should NOT have aspirin, ibuprofen, or other NSAIDS. They do not metabolize them properly. Your cat should be closely monitored by a vet if NSAIDS are used even if Adequan is not used. This is a valid warning for dogs which often are prescribed NSAIDS.
