    Morning all,

Been a member for a while taking in all the useful information. Thought it was about time i posted.
Our diabetic cat 'Sandy' was diagnosed last year, she had been struggling with mobility on her back end and was overweight  . Anyhoo, a visit to the vet (who thankfully is a friend of ours) and she came back with the diabetes diagnosis. She had been fed on dry food for several years and is a bit greedy one it comes to food. Anyway we started the insulin course and changed her diet (and the other 3 cats) to wet food only. Within 6-7 weeks she was into remission and seemed a whole lot better. We are now a good 10 months into the remission and whilst she seems okay her back end mobility seems a little worse (she will be 14 this summer). She has had regular checkups to make sure she is still okay and so far all is well. I would really like to start doing home monitoring as the vet trips seem to stress out 2 of the other cats more than her.
All in all she is doing well for a cat that has been relocated from England to Scotland and then onto the USA!

    Welcome Paul!

We would certainly recommend that you start testing at home. Because of vet stress, it really is the only way you can know how the insulin is working. The leg problem could be neuropathy, which would mean that she is unregulated. (We consider a kitty regulated if their blood sugars are at least in the 200 range at preshot and dip into the 100s or lower at nadir. That is on insulin.) It could be other things like arthritis or a blood clot or an injury. It sounds like your vet has checked out other possibilities?

It is easy to test at home and literally, a life saver. Have you seen the video: Video for hometesting We all have tricks that helped us get that first drop so just ask for help.

    Thanks for the welcome
Pretty sure its arthritis as it was mentioned at the last visit. Funny thing is she and the latest addition don't mind the trips, its the other 2 who get stressed out. You ought to see the fun we have getting them into carrying cages  (it normally ends in tears, and blood ohmygod_smile ).

Anyway, we got a kit and will have to learn from the videos and all the useful info that's out there :?

    Cheers
    Paul
