My youngest daughter, (seems like I raised a bunch of cat lovers), will be bringing home a kitten shortly and was wondering if any members might have a vet reccommendation in Toronto. She will be living pretty well downtown, with her closest subway station being Davisville. She is at Yonge and Davisville.
    Thanks,
    Dana

I am pretty sure that Ronnie lives out in the west end burbs.... I live in the east end burbs. I am pretty sure that there are members in the core of the city.

Gayle & Shadoe is your best bet, and I do believe she was vet hunting a while ago and found a keeper for her kitties.
I'll point her to this thread Dana.

I have the BEST VET IN THE WORLD!
    At least I think so!

I live at Bloor and Jarvis, right by the Rogers bldgs and near Manulife head office; mention that location and yr daughter will know where I am.... right downtown. I know her location.

I was going to Downtown Animal hospital, and I do love one vet there, Dr. Vihos - she is awesome, knows her stuff, but I have to say that I don't like the office much and they are really not 'up' on modern meds .... they still recommend Caninsulin for diabetics and don't talk about hometesting or anything. They fought me to have Shadoe tested for acro, and I had to get the info for them and force them to test her. If your daughter knows her stuff and it's an emergency, this place is fairly close to her at Church St and between Bloor&Wellesley.

I recently spoke with a vet at Woofstock this summer and was quite impressed. I made an appt for a consult and took big Oliver with me. I had a list of questions, pertaining to acro, diabetes, and what meds for what illnesses. I quizzed the crap outta this guy. I am kicking myself for not looking and maybe finding him earlier. I trust this guy completely.

OK his name is Dr. Mitelman and he has a facebook site where you can look at some of the amazing surgeries and stuff he has done. He is a heart specialist as well, so that's why I took Oliver as I was told he had a murmur. He is willing to work with you and is very receptive to trying stuff if it is medically sound ... an example is that I wanted a pain med for both mine, to give daily, and we discussed tramadol and also my query to try gabapentin. He told me all about both and said that gabapentin could be a good fit so let's try it. Ugh, I am thinking this place nothing like the other place Wow!

-you can see his work first hand.

    - their web site
    - you can see Dr. Samson on the main screen just above the word 'your' and Dr. Mitelman is in the other 3 pictures.

Now, I have compared the prices at the old vet and the new. There are some things that are more expensive at both. The consult was something like $80 for Dr. Mitelman and he spent lots of time, answered ALL my list of questions, and he always draws me pictures, literally, of all the things he is explaining to me. We exchange info all the time.
The important stuff is cheaper at the new place, like Xrays, u/s, etc because it's got all the eqpt there as it's also a trauma office. On one visit, appts were delayed because of his doing an emergency surgery.... who can mind! We all waited patiently and nothing shook him. He did even pop out to say they were just about done.

The other vet there, Dr. Samson I think, is also very pleasant. They seemed pleased to have 2 acros as clients and treated me so fine. I have to say though, I saw them both treating all the other animals there in the same special manner.

As my money is not pouring out of my pockets, I always state at the beginning of all visits.... this is a $600 visit so you decide how it gets used. I have to say he tells me what's all needed and what can wait and also why. Not a single blink at my horrible defensive attitude.

The other day, I had no appt and just stopped in to drop off a note about some things I wanted to start ... the B12 shots, etc and he happened to come out and said wait a bit and we can talk about it! Can you beat that?

Their address is 1025 Kingston Road right near Victoria Park Avenue. I take the subway from Bloor & Yonge to the Vic Park subway station and then a short bus ride south to Kingston Road.

Sorry, I can't praise them enough; I feel they are worth every penny.
I would highly recommend a consult with the animal and go from there.

    Thanks,
I will pass on the info. She does not want to come back into Ajax for our vet, but then it is up to her.
