My vet has claimed B-12 for my cat's injections is not something I can get from a local pharmacy. Instead it needs to be ordered through him. I thought others on this board mentioned obtaining B-12 through other outlets. If yes, please share!

Which B12 do you want? There is B12 cobalamin that is is usually injected and is used for gastric reasons. Thee is also the methyl B12 which is used for. neuropathy. The methyl B12 is usually given orally and can be procured at a human vitamin store. The cobalamin injection can be bought at some human pharmacies or animal grade can be bough over the internet. A week or so ago there was a topic on where to buy. The reply above is for the methyl form.

For B-12 injections for gastric reasons. Sorry! I thought when I wrote B-12 injections in my initial post that was specific enough. I don't need methyl B-12.

    Thanks

Laura, you did say injection but squeem3's reply sent you to the oral methyl B12 and I want to be sure you knew there were two types available.

Yes, thanks, I know about the difference. There was a discussion late last month about where to buy oral methyl B-12 ( http://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7128 ) and I was seeking similar information for the injectable version used for GI-related issues.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Thriving Pets was suggested to me as one good online source, and the Feline IBD Yahoo Group has a file with links to several other online sources, including a few Canadian pharmacies that don't required a prescription for U.S. purchases:

Canadian Source for cyanocobalamin B12 for injections
Currently marked as no prescription required

Canadian Source for cyanocobalamin B12 for injections
    Curently marked as no prescription

My vet only charged me $20 for a bottle, which doesn't seem too bad when you add S&H to the cost of a $10 bottle online. But still good to know about other options available.

    Laura,
I got mine at target...under $15 bucks for what will probably be a life time supply.
You could also check walmart or costco if you have those near you. They both quoted me similar prices (after the fact).

If any of the pharmacies are unsure (which was not a problem in my case) , let me know and I will give you the NDC. they can for sure figure it out with that.
