Nadir is the time when Bg is lowest and unless you test every hour there's some guesswork involved in knowing when it is. If you go back to both of your spreadsheets and look through your BG numbers to see when the lowest BG happened you can see it shifts around somewhat. Today on the first Lantus day, your lowest BG was at +9.5.

Kris, I noticed on here that I see where a lot of cats get sick to their stomachs, bella never throws up, I was wondering what causes that in diabetic cats, just in case he ever starts it

Yes, many do. It’s great that Bella doesn’t. Cerenia is a good medication for nausea and vomiting but you’d need to know the reason for the vomiting to know what else to do.

It’s not uncommon for the insulin to be wearing down by the 11th hour. I guess it could be different with the depot. Some to tide you over. Why wouldn’t all insulin’s be made with a little leftover to carry through the ends of cycle? Makes more sense to me... wondering... I’m thinking Baby’s pretty much out of prozinc by the 11th hour. Not a fan of that! My son says humans do the same but as long as it’s not several hours during each cycle; the damage is minimal. Am I right? @Kris & Teasel @Djamila & any other whisperers out there?

Yes, that's true Becky. We do the best we can by giving insulin and each kitty will respond in their own way. It's not a perfect substitute for a properly functioning pancreas.

Thanks @Kris & Teasel - I just wondered if feline bodies were the same as humans in that sense. Derek (son) tells me of diabetes in people but I never know if cats bodies may be different. So yes, we do the best we can with what we have! I’m thankful for the insulin.

There are many similarities but I've heard from a few vets that FD cats are notoriously tricky to treat and regulate.

    It's a great number but a big drop. Get a +3.

The +3 should give you a good indication. Can you manage that? There could be nights down the line when you'll need to set an alarm to do a test especially as you're learning how Lantus acts in Bella.

Great numbers! If it was my kitty I'd set an alarm and get a +6 or +7 test. I hate to even mention that because you have to get up so early. I really don't think he'll drop too low. It would be for information gathering. Your call ...

OK. You decide whether you want to get a +6 or a +7. :) I hope you can get to sleep easily afterward.

Yes. Just follow the SLGS guide. As long as he gets any dry food that’s the method to follow. Look at how flat his numbers were last night!

You want to hold the initial dose for a week, so Saturday is the time to reassess and make any changes. My personal opinion, it's OK to adjust a day early or late if there are other constraints-- I always like to do dose changes on days when I know I can be home to monitor the whole day, for example.

Yes agree, I am off sat and sun and can monitor him, with new insulin I wouldn’t feel comfortable leaving him while at work if we increase, so do I do the curve on sat then reassess

I agree with Nan that you can tweak the dose change time a day early or late if circumstances dictate. Even after all my time with Teasel I only make dose changes, vial changes, etc. in the AM of a day I'm home to keep an eye on him.
