Hello,
I have not been here in a while but felt the need to come back to try to get some help.
Boo, who was an outside cat, has been moved inside since the end of May as he was acting weird-staring, acting like he is in a fog and wandering around. At this time he is on Prozinc 5 units twice a day. Took him to the vet 06/09/2016 and he said all was okay, blood sugar 171 at 6 hours and come back in 1 month and if still acting odd, will check his kidney function. Back to vet on 07/16/2016 blood sugar was 208 and dip stick on BUN was elevated. Vet changed his diet from Fancy Feast classic to KD. Started feeding him wet KD 1 can twice a day and 3/4 cup dry KD daily. Blood sugars have been running high since then. Went back to vet on 08/13/2016-weight 17 lbs, Blood sugar at 6 hours 433, BUN 44, Creatinine 2.0, liver functions and electrolytes good. Prozinc insulin increased to 6 units. Preshot blood sugars are ranging any where from 444 to HI on meter and at about 6 hours one check was 444 and the other was 400. Blood sugar levels before evening insulin ranging from 525 to HI. Not sure what to do. Vet does not want to see him for 2 months and am to call if blood sugar at 6 hours is over 200. Will stop by vets office today to see what his recommendations are. It seems to me that the KD diet has increased his blood sugars but vet did not seem to think so. Asked if his kidney function would affect his blood sugar and he said no. Just looking for some guidance to try to get Boo's blood sugars in control. Any help would be grateful.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi, I'm not great at reading labs so I'll leave interpreting numbers to someone else.

The KD is definitely increasing the BG numbers.

The old school theory behind KD is that a kidney cat needs a low protein diet - so they add lots of carbs as filler. KD is a high carb food. The new school theory for kidney cats is a high protein diet. For a diabetic cat, kidney disease is best managed by a high protein diet (Fancy Feast classics, some of the Wellness canned, raw - to name a few) and then, if phosphorus is high, to manage that with an aluminum phosphate binder.

Start by checking out: http://www.felinecrf.org/which_foods.htm

This website will be become your encyclopaedia of knowledge, kidney wise. The amount of information is overwhelming at first.

Agree. If we had a few days of recent numbers, it would help us help you. The KD is high carb and can't be helping with the levels. I think your instincts are right there. Check out the CRF site for food ideas.

There are lots of possibilities: too much insulin, too little, high carb diet, high dose conditions. Seeing your recent numbers will be a place to start.
