Good morning L & L ~

Bubba must have read his thread last night where I threatened to not let him outside this morning if he was in blues. This is our lowest AM number in 3 days, Yeah.

Sending vines to all Beans and Kitties, to many sick babies right now.

OT: I have to deal with the IRS today on my mom's behalf. Apparently she did not pay back taxes on the sale of her house in AL back in 2008. She was all ready losing her facilities then and lucky me gets to deal with it. Hope the IRS will be forgiving and understand that to attach her meager SS check would be a hard ship. :banghead:

This tax on houses in the US got me curious. I found one article that said:

"
$250,000 Exclusion on the Sale of a Main Home
Individuals can exclude up to $250,000 in profit from the sale of a main home (or $500,000 for a married couple) as long as you have owned the home and lived in the home for a minimum of two years. Those two years do not need to be consecutive."

I really don't know all the ins and outs in the US but maybe this applies to your Mom's home??

ETA In Canada if you sell a house that you own that is not your primary home or a vacation property you are taxed on capital gains, but not on a primary home.

Thanks for that information. It might be helpful. :bighug:

I think my moms was exempt too..hoping that applies to your moms house.,sending understanding IRS agent vines to you!! :bighug::bighug:
Look out mousies!! Bubba's back in town!! :cat::cat:

Good work Bubbs! I agree with Mary Ann's information and frankly pretty sure after 7 years it's a mute point
With the IRS they can go back 10 years to get back taxes. So, they shouldn't be able to get the 2004 money but the 2008 is the biggie. I am assuming it is from the sale of her house but not entirely sure. They wouldn't talk to me until I proved I had POA which I've done......so hoping I can get somewhere with them today.

Bobbie, on the few occasions I have had dealings with the IRS they were very pleasant and helpful. Hope you have a good experience with them, too, good luck today!

Good luck with the IRS. I've had to deal with them a few times due to my immigration status changing and, surprisingly enough, their customer service was a lot better than many other offices... but, then again, the BMV here has set the bar very low.

Definitely get advice from a CPA if IRS says your mom owes..........sold my dad's house in 2015 and the $250k exemption did apply (if taxes owed are solely from sale of home, you shouldn't owe - my dad didn't either). Again, maybe it is from something else....but a CPA (if told you owe) can be a lifesaver if you are hit today with some shocking IRS news/debt.

Also, for future assistance, I read that a little fox urine behind each ear can keep the IRS away (or make your meeting very, very short, haha)...Highly recommend!

I got a good laugh from that as I have been holding on IRS for 1 1/2 hours. :banghead: I need to find out today (when someone answers ...) what the back tax is for and then I can proceed. If it were for the sale of the house it wasn't her primary residence, she bought it and my younger brother was living in it. Her's and my dad's house was one mile away. So, I think we are stuck......

Yo, Bubba! Keep on surfin' for you and :bighug::bighug::bighug: for your mom. Your mom's got a doozy of a :banghead: to contend with today . Good luck...definitely a deep breaths day...

LMAO I wonder if that would work with Revenue Canada as well???

Thanks for the great laugh..it was really appreciated :bighug:
They're all the same, looking at easy targets ! Years ago the building I do the maintenance on was sold by my neighbour
who owned it to an holding cie after I'd been working there for 5 years. The Prov and Feds send each a nice little letter
with a bill in the 4 digits on what they considered a job (15 min a week). Was a studying at the time and could barely
survive even with a room mate

Hope we're not discouraging you Bobbie ? Have a look at Bubba's SS, that more optimistic.

The IRS rabbit hole continues. After I was told 3 weeks ago to fill out a certain form and send in, today I am told they don't have record of it and it was the wrong form! So tomorrow, I will get up early and go to Staples and try to get those knuckle heads on the phone in a timely fashion so one of the agents can give me her/his fax number and I will fax it while I have the agent on the phone. :banghead:

Sounds like me, dealing with an insurance claim on my kitty with heart disease - been doing this since March!
