    Hi all

Oscar has been put onto 2 units twice a day after a gradual increase to prevent him getting sick. Everytime we increase his dose initially his numbers go higher then go lower after about a day, is this normal?

Also, today we have finally got his number down into the 200's and he's suddenly decided to drink a lot and has hidden a bit. Surely he should be drinking less on lower levels? Is his body just trying to adjust at the moment?

    Thanks in advance

Hi Amanda! That's a normal reaction to an increase - we laughingly call it 'New Dose Wonkiness' (NDW). The liver senses the increase of the hormone available in the body and goes into overtime to give it things it thinks it needs to handle the sudden change. It usually takes 2-3 days for it to settle down and Mr. Liver to quit panicking.

Drinking less - I've never noticed a big decrease in drinking at lower levels but I constantly see that they're not nearly as hungry and get 'full' quicker. You likely read the situation right - his body is adjusting to all these changes.

Thanks. It's all so odd as Oscars levels don't seem to come down that much no matter what I give him. I'll keep at it and keep gradually increasing hopefully we'll have a break through soon, need to get him out of those 400 numbers!

He still eats a lot of food at the moment but I'd rather he was eating than not :). Thanks for your advice

"New Dose Wonkiness" Just one more thing to turn your life sideways. It's okay Amanda, when I first got to this place I thought I at least knew what end was up. Big hugs to the really smart people here.
