I couldn't figure out if I needed a new login - we were registered for the old site last year, and Chester went OTJ in December 2009. Seemingly on his own, suddenly, perhaps when pancreatitis resolved itself? Nobody knows. He was on a high amount of Lantus (4 units 2x's a day, maybe higher), and was suspected of having acromegaly.

The current vet does not think he's an acrocat, but he does believe Chester is hyperthyroid. We started Chester on 1 unit of Lantus in the morning when I discovered he was no longer in remission (BG 350, two weeks ago). Since then his lowest BG has been 309 (+3). His low has consistently gotten higher each day, and is generally only at +2 or +3. He's always going back up by 1pm (+4).

This morning I tested and his BG is 517. I am extremely, extremely frustrated with the specialist we've been seeing. I can't get him to call back consistently (on Friday I was desperately calling about levels in the 400's, he said we needed to wait and see - how long, who knows??). I'm now waiting on another call-back. My regular vet won't touch Chester with a ten-foot pole because he's such a difficult case. We spend four months trying to regulate him from August through November, then suddenly, he was OTJ. Somehow he managed to gain a huge amount of weight between December and July, when I noticed his BG creeping into the 100's when it'd been consistently 60-90.

Trying to figure out if the Lantus we have (that I've stored in the refrigerator since December) is bad. It's a vial, not a cartridge. I opened it two weeks ago.

Behavior - lethargic (typical, really), drinking TONS of water, voice hoarse, peeing a lot, and defecating a lot outside the litter box (he hasn't gone in the box in months. very annoying).

Welcome back, but sorry you have to be here! No experience with either of Chester's problems.

If I were you, I would post on the acro part of the forum: viewforum.php?f=12 and on the Lantus Insulin Support group: viewforum.php?f=9 In both cases, there will be people who have experience with Chester's unique issues.
