My civvie cat beans had surgery today cause she had Pyometra. I brought her home a couple hours ago but I can't get her to settle down & get comfy & go to sleep. She's not in pain but she's excited & upset cause she has a cone on.

Any suggestions on how to help her settle down for the night? She's already managed to get her cone off once & it looks like she's already popped a couple of staples :(

I out her in her kennel for awhile but that's where she got her cone off & I feel guilty leaving her on her kennel for the night.

Did she get something for pain? China was given a shot of a "long acting" pain medication (that's what I was told anyway) when she had her last dental and she was totally freaking out for the next few days.

As bad as it makes you feel, it really is important that she limit how much she's out, so I'd keep her in the kennel, especially when you can't be with her to watch her and when you're sleeping. You don't want her popping any more staples

The vet said they gave her a shot of antibiotics & a shot of pain meds. They sent home some bupe for her but she's not due to have it until morning.

Some good news is she's eating on her own! I took her cone off for a few minutes do she can eat & she's actually hungry so that's very encouraging.

I think I will put her in her kennel for tonight so she can get some rest & hopefully not pop anymore staples. Beans is a hyper high strung kind of kitty so I can see the next 2 weeks being hard to keep her somewhat quiet :nailbiting:

If she were mine I'd keep her kennelified for several days; doubly so because she's popping staples.

Saoirse hates the Cone of Shame. Have a look online for post-surgery pet suits, e.g:

I got Saoirse a pet playpen after her eye op and she loves it (still uses it!). Room to move around.

Our vets were so impressed with Saoirse's kitty hotel that they now recommend them to other clients whose pets are recovering from surgery. :)

Sending lots of healing thoughts to Beans.

Beans is doing great! She's eating on her own again and has lots of energy. She seems like shes almost back to her old self again. Last night Beans even slept on the bed with us, well she slept ontop of my bladder for most of the night  I think her staples are coming out because the swelling has gone down and the infection is clearing up so much. She's not licking or trying to pull them out which is good. I'm going to put a call into the vet this afternoon and see what they say.
