Do you take morning BG before feeding? why?

    The cats are screaming for food first thing in the AM. So I often feed first then after take the BG and then inject. Should I be taking BG first before feeding? If so why? Does it matter? Thanks.

    Take it before so the number is not food influenced. You need to make sure he's high enough to shoot.

    You need an actual 'body' glucose number NOT influenced by food to know if it's safe to shoot. According to what you feed, that could raise the number 100-150 points. If you shoot into that, when the food digests, that food influenced number will go away - you're left with still working insulin for the rest of the cycle. It gives you a very false sense of security. You don't think you need to monitor as closely because the pre-shot number was high when in reality, it might not be...
