    Hi all,

My cat eats throughout the day (low carb wet food). Will this have much impact on his glucose curve? Does bg move a lot after eating? And how long after eating will it start to impact a bg reading?

    Thanks!

Usually it takes 20-30 minutes for food to get into the bloodstream and affect BG. The food effect is negligible about 2 hours after eating. When doing a curve you can feed normally if your kitty is a grazer because you want to see how the insulin dose plays out with a normal eating pattern. The reason we say no food for two hours before each pre shot test is so you know whether a planned dose is safe. If there's food influencing the PS BG level you might think the dose is safe when it's actually too high.

My kitties were always grazers...so during a curve, I just let them graze. They say small regular meals are better for sugar cats than 2 big ones anyway, so if they graze and sort of self-regulate how much they need, it can make life easier for you and them!
