Could there be other health issues?
Sure hope Squalene starts to have lower numbers. It is frustrating when you can't figure out why the numbers are high. Usually it's either they need more insulin you haven't found the magic dose or health issues. :bighug::bighug:

Thanks! :bighug:

It could be his teeth, or he could have a UTI. But he also has a pattern of increasing insulin needs; once his BG numbers start to rise, they don't go back down again without raising his insulin dose. :(

Does anybody know if the Blue Buffalo Freedom line of foods is acceptable for diabetic kitties? I can't find any info on them. Thanks!

Squallie had some hind end weakness and is on a potassium supplement as a result. But now I'm noticing more weakness. I don't know if this is arthritis or neuropathy. Poor guy was in the litter box today taking care of businees and about half-way through he just went butt-down-plopp! I also notice he doesn't walk very far before sitting down, and if I pet him while he's standing up he'll drop right down, like stroking his back hurts him or makes him uncomfortable, which makes me wonder about the arthritis. Any ideas?

That sounds like Gussie with neuropathy before the Zobaline...I thought it was arthritis in his hips..

Does the Zobaline really help him?
I consider it a miracle pill. He was barely walking. Couple of steps and stopping. When he climbed in and out of the box he fell and flopped around on the floor as if he had no control of his hind legs. He ended up walking on his hind hocks and was headed down on the front too. It was heartbreaking. BUT thanks to folks here I started the Zobaline. It wasn't an overnight cure, I had to be patient. It took about three weeks of twice daily pills to start to notice he was moving up off his hocks. He can now run away from me and is walking on his toes. No LB issues..so long story but yes. I believe it helped! It's been basically 4 months.

Where do you get it?Do you get it through your vet?

What potassium supplement is Gussie's on? Gizmo was on Rena gel and we discovered accidentally that it contains sugar (or at least highly suspect it because we couldn't find a list of ingredients). Go back and look at Gizmo's thread on 10/12. Look at his #'s for that day.

I feel your pain with the high #'s.

Squallie was on the gel first and I think you're right, that it probably has sugar in it, because it smelled very fruity-sweet. I use the Renal K powder, it doesn't have any sugar.

I hate it when his BG gets out of control like this, it's always so hard to get it back down, if I can at all! It seems to have come down tonight, but I'm not making any bets on the morning! ;)

The only thing I know about it is that it had some recalls in the past year. My cats even before Smokey would not touch it.

And their litter, I did not like. It left little kitty prints on the floors and carpets. I guess when the crushed walnut got wet it was like an ink pad. And didn't clump well at all.

Yes, I'd heard it had some recalls, that's why I've never really looked at it before. It's so darn hard to find a good, lo-carb food that all my guys can eat, and that I can afford! I really thought I'd hit the jackpot with the Wellness, but they stopped eating it after about three weeks.

Nobody knows anything about Blue Buffalo?
Lucy, if you look at Dr. Lisa's food list, you will see that she tried very hard to get the values from them to include them on her list, but they refused to give them to her. This made her feel uncomfortable about using it or recommending its use. I agree - if they won't give the info to a vet, what are they hiding?

I'm glad Squallie came down tonight. Looks like the old dosecrease threat worked it's magic. Squallie, take heed: Mama's trigger finger is itching! You'd best stay off of that trampoline!

They might eat it again in a few months. I gave Smokey different food for each meal everyday. He had some favorites but still refused them sometimes. We would have 8 different ones opened a day. My refrigerator has so much space now.

Tripper will only eat the Purina Smart Blend beef. She will not eat any other wet or homemade, raw or cooked. Then she eats very little of it. One 3 oz can will last 2 days for her. She basically eats dry and at least she eats EVO now or was, this week she's back to the Beyond brand.

Tux will only eat Proplan beef and carrots and Purina beef that Tripper eats. Occasionally he will eat Purina Smart Blend chicken.

I think they tire of the same thing, just like beans do. So changing it up and keeping it interesting is key.

Thanks, Tricia. I agree, too!

Fingers crossed Squallie keeps the threat in mind, lol!

I think you're right, it must get boring to eat the same thing over and over. My guys probably never want to see another can of FF Turkey & Giblets. But I have to be careful about changing anything in their diets because Squallie is SO carb sensitive, and Candy's IBD usually flares if I try another food. I go through lots of topping, lol. I'm always on the hunt for something they can all eat, that won't have a negative affect on anyone, and that I can afford!

I just tried natures balance limited ingredients. Neither one would try it.

I also bought merricks limited in duck and lamb although it's dog food, to try. Store doesn't sell the cat food. I keep trying but these two will only eat the 2 beef or dry food.

That's tough. To many variables.
