If he's seizing and Fred hasn't had any insulin, something else is going on. I would really get him to a vet. without insulin, there's no reason for his numbers to be in the 20s. He may need to be on a dextrose drip and you can't do that at home. I'm sorry, but more Karo on the gums, scoop Fred up and get to the vet/ER.

Depending how far away the vet is he should take the syrup with him to keep administering.

Fred should not be having an insulin induced hypo when he hasn't had insulin for so many days so I suspect there may be something else going on to cause this.

I'm sorry to be blunt but if he doesn't get Fred to the vet I think there is every chance you will lose him. Tell your husband I will help out with vet bill just get him there - now

    Isabela --

There are just some things we're not equipped to handle nor is a caregiver able to handle on his or her own. I realize this can be costly but I don't know of a better alternative. Unless your husband inadvertently gave Fred insulin, what he's seeing isn't insulin related. It's certainly outside of the scope of my expertise.

I agree with Sienne and Vyktor's Mom.
Fred needs to see a vet as soon as possible. If insulin hasn't been given for almost 3 days... something else is going on.

All my husband keep saying is that he wants to end his own agony and get rid of Fred.
I am sorry. I am in deep tears right now. Away from home.
Will be home only tomorrow at lunch.
    He was just fine.

I'm glad he's come up a little but I'm still really frightened for you and Fred. This should not be caused by insulin so is something else. I'm so sorry you're not home with him :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Adding more prayers Isabella....Wish there was something we could do to help ....One thing I'd make 100% sure of is that nobody gave Fred any insulin...I know you've had problems with your petsitter before ....even with your instructions, is it possible she did it anyway?

    Hugs for you:bighug::bighug::bighug:

I was told no insulin was given to Fred.

I was able to do a ketone test on him before I left the house.
It was around his PM + 7.
After 15 second it looks negative.
I was gone with him the last week or so and he was just fine.

Yeah that looks like a negative ketone test to me too

There are some diseases that can cause very low numbers. Without having Fred go to the vet, there's just no way to know for sure what's going on with him, but you have all our prayers and hopes that whatever is going on, Fred fights back and is fine when you're able to get back home to him

He needs to keep going - there's always the risk of overdoing the karo and having Fred start vomiting - something your husband needs to be aware of. Many people will alternate the meat from the high carb cat food with the gravy (with a little karo added) to try to help sustain the blood sugar a little longer. So one time give karo/gravy, the next time give the meat.

    How is Fred behaving now?

I'm feeling so badly for you - yet again while you're gone he has another crisis. Big hug to you.

And he can give more syrup rectally if Fred will take it ok. It really would be so much better if he was on a drip this is a very sustained period of very low numbers :nailbiting: I feel so bad for you :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I'm afraid this number isn't going to come up with karo, if something other than insulin is causing it to be low. I know it must be hard if your husband has a different opinion. Any chance he will change his mind and go to the vet when he gets tired of all this testing?

Either way, sending hugs and prayers your way.

    i've been away this week......
    any other symptoms.....
from my own limited ( limited is the key word) observations, the big ugly that causes low numbers is cancer.
maybe if you can tell us other symptoms, one of us can at least inspire your dh to talk to the vet tomorrow.
i really love that beautiful face on Fred.
